since I have nothing else to give.
Keep it like a warm coat
when winter comes to cover you,
or like a pair of thick socks
the cold cannot bite through,

                         I love you,
The words that the author uses in the first stanza give the audience a sense of protection and comfort. For example when the author says to "keep it like a warm coat when winter comes to cover you"

2 - I have nothing else to give you,
so it is a pot full of yellow corn
to warm your belly in winter,
it is a scarf for your head, to wear
over your hair, to tie up around your face,

                         I love you,

The speaker opens the second stanza with the same line as the first . The difference is that he compares the poem to a "pot of yellow corn" this time. I believe he is implying that the yellow corn will bring her warmth.

3- Keep it, treasure this as you would
if you were lost, needing direction,
in the wilderness life becomes when mature;
and in the corner of your drawer,
tucked away like a cabin or hogan
in dense trees, come knocking,
and I will answer, give you directions,
and let you warm yourself by this fire,
rest by this fire, and make you feel safe

                         I love you,

 The speaker said to treasure it. Making this poem look like something extremely priceless. When you are lost and looking for a sense of direction you can look to this poem. This will make you feel safe and secure. We can use this to
guide us when we are lost in the "wilderness" of life. In describing life as a "wilderness," we can again see the speaker using another metaphor.

4- It’s all I have to give,
and all anyone needs to live,
and to go on living inside,
when the world outside
no longer cares if you live or die;
remember,

                         I love you.



The speaker tells us "to go on living inside." What does he mean by inside? The author could be referring to multiple things here. When the world outside is hostile and doesn't care if we "live or die." When  bad stuff hits we can 
always treasure this poem to feel loved and secure. These lines about love again affirm the relationship between love and poetry.

The speakers tone is very intimate, taking as if one was having a conversation with the one they love.  The speaker is also very giving even with the little that he is offering.  "I am offering this poem to you,

when winter comes to cover you,
or like a pair of thick socks
the cold cannot bite through,

                         I love you," This stanza just goes to show the tone the speaker has throughout the poem.

He compares his love to warm food, a warm coat, thick socks and plenty more. When the speaker compares his poem to a warm jacket in the first stanza he is implying that the poem will bring a sense of warmth, the same thing with " it is a pot full of yellow corn
to warm your belly in winter," it implicates comfort to their audience.
