this week we struggled with coming up with ideas to begin with, but later in the lesson Rhys and Kane came up with some chords. we was going for an 90s sound and we wanted It to sound nirvana influenced but the end result it sounded more psychedelic rock like pearl Jam.What made this song sound Nirvana influenced was because of the effects of the guitar and the drums sound shuffled and has a similar style to Nirvana unplugged.

in this week we finished writing the lyrics for the grunge 90s music.
when we finished the lyrics we got our song recorded. we sounded quite good, levels where good, the drums and guitar worked well together and I tried different vocal melodies that went well with the song and we had good stage presents. the things that I personally need to work on was during the beginning and the end of the 1st verse my vocals sounded a bit pitchy and starchy. how I could work on is to work on my vocal range so I vocals can take more.

this week we was focusing on the 70s and we tried listening to bands from the 70s such as Fleetwood mac, the who, queen, ramones, areosmith, the runaways, the beatles, deep purple, the rolling stones. we choice a top 3 bands to get inspiration from so we could a way to collaborate 3 different styles of bands into one song. because in bands like the ramones I found the vocals quite difficult to achieve on a decent level, however I was able to sing in a style of the runaways and used that style when singing the song. our 3 bands where the runaways, ramones and Fleetwood mac. so we listened to those bands and decided what was the main style we was going for such as the ramones where heavier than Fleetwood mac so we had to make a decision on the particular style. so rhys and kane focused on the instrumentals and making it sound from the 70s; with rhys playing some slides on the guitar giving it that 70s sound and kane playing the drums quite heavy but not a really fast tempo.

this week we carried on with 70s punk music and we finished writing the lyrics to the song so it would be completed. we practice the song quite a few times so I could find a way to sing the vocals and get it recorded. the recording itself went quite well and we all performed up to standard and had good stage presents and those thinks went well. the thing that we need to improve on is just tighting up the performance as a whole so when it comes to performing again it will be a solid performance.

lyrics

(verse1)
taken for a fool
your words sound so cruel
who to be blamed
when your cursing my name
(verse2)
I'm down on ma luck
can you shut the fuck up
making me tamed
all hung up in fame
(chorus)
help me break free
free from insanity X2

( instrumentalist solo )

chorus again

What makes this sound 70s punk is the overdrive on the guitar like Jimmy Page had on his guitar.
And the druming was crescendoed so the drumming alternate between soft and heavy drumming. The vocals had a 70s style because when the chorus of the song came in the vocals become alouder and more gritty like some singers from the 70s. Like the singer from Ramones had a slightly harsh and gritty sound.

this week me, Rhys and Kane decided to write an 80's songs in the style of an ballad. we sent the lesson trying to come up with the instrumentals that suite the style the song; Rhys came up with some chords for the song which were; D minor for the verses, C major and G major for the choruses. And once the chords for the song was sorted Kane was able to come up with some drum patterns to go with the song. Then me and Rhys came up with some lyrics for the song and tried to make it the lyrics suitable for the era and style of the song.

What makes it this song a 80s ballad is the how the vocals are sang because they are presented quite emotional to suite the meaning of the lyrics. The song it's self isn't too fast to keep its emotional feel; if the song was played faster than it wouldn't be as emotional. The drums were played slow but build up.
lyrics

(Verse 1)
caught in the crossfire
with no escape
I'm trying to leave
its like there a gate

( Chorus )
but i know
its gonna be okay
i know im gonna be okay
but ill be okay

( verse 2)

im not looking back
on my mistakes
im free to run
but ill lay an wait

( chorus again

for this lesson and next weeks I would be working with Isha, Deberah, James and Patrick and what we did was we all decided what style of 50s song we was going for, such as a typical 50s pop song that were normally are written about love, or more 50s rock music style that were about racism, sex, drugs and rock n' roll. as we was coming up with the style of sing we wanted to write Isha and Patrick worked together and tried to come up with some chords that had 50s style and something that fitted well together, also trying to find out whether the song should be in a major or minor key. whilst Isha and Patrick was coming up with chords me, Deberah and James came up with some lyrics and where approate for the style of 50s song we was going for, which was a pop song. also we tried out different ways and styles of singing the lyrics to find which sounded more of a 50s song and that fitted with the chords. the aim of the lesson was to right some lyrics and come up with the instrumentals for the song so we were ready to just sing it through and practice it so we could get it recorded.

in this weeks lesson we just added some finishing touches to our song as we was recording this week, we finished off the rest of the lyrics and practiced the song all the way through with everyone. the elements that make it 50s style is the chords played between the guitars and the keyboard and also how me, James and Deberah sang the song by using the elements of call and response as well as call and response.

here are the lyrics
verse 1
The first time I ever saw your face,
I thought the sun rose in your eyes and the moon and the stars were the gift.
that you gave to the dark and the endless skies.

For her the ocean was more than a dream.
it was a place she needed to visit to find herself.
and when she returned to the city.
you could see the sun in her eyes and the wind in her hair.

chorus
tell me why.aint nothing but a heartache.
tell me why, aint nothing but a mistake.
tell me why I never wanna hear you say, I want it, I really want it that way.
