On this page Eddie is being introduced to the reader. This page gives me a clear description of who he is and what he’s like. This page in particular is important because it gives details on what Eddie looks like and what kind of spirit he gives off. Such as speaking about the clothes he wears and also talking about the arthritis he has. It also brings up his job and what he does for a living. Talking about the customers and how they know Eddie helps readers know how other characters feel about Eddie.

This page introduces the little girl that happens to change Eddies life. As well as showing that Eddie is a caring person and humble about things. On this page the little girl wanted Eddie to make her an animal. So he did and he already had pipe cleaners ready for this situation which shows that he doesn’t only just think about himself but others too. He also was concerned about where her parents were and didn’t understand why the little girls mom was on rides without her. This is all important for later in the book.

On this page it explains in detail that he feels great at first, then all alone, and then ends up where he works Ruby Pier. This is important because Ruby Pier is an important location in the book. Even though he was on Ruby Pier it was completely different which also means he’s not really there. When it talks about Eddie blinking hard this is showing that he’s still confused on where he is at and why he’s there.

This page is Eddie First lesson from the Blue Man. Eddie is feeling confused, upset, angry with himself, and doesn’t understand why things happened the way they did. At this point Eddie has met the first person which is the Blue Man. Eddie learns that the Blue Man died for Eddie when he was just a little boy. Eddie doesn’t think it is fair that the Blue Man died for him and takes all the blame for it. The Blue Man explains to Eddie that fairness is unpredictable when it comes to life and death. The Blue Man teaches Eddie that everyone dies and even if you haven’t yet someone else is instead just like The Blue Man did instead of Eddie dying.

This page is when Eddie meets his second person for his second lesson. It was The Captain which is Eddies commanding officer. They served in the army together. This is important because the last person was someone he didn’t know and now he knows the second person personally. This page is also important because it talks about all the things that Eddie learned while serving. It giving us more past information about Eddie.

This page is important because it speaks about how Eddie felt stronger than ever before. The authors says that all his muscles are way tighter and the limberness was gone. This is also a very detailed part of the book as it explains how Eddie feels and what the setting looks like around him.

The captain teachers him that sacrifice is apart of life and everyone is going to have to do it. The captain explains that it’s nothing to regret because everyone has to sacrifice. Such as a mother going to work for her son to go to school or a daughter moving back home for her sick dad. Not only that but a man going to war he explained is sacrificing your life for the country. Eddies lesson is that everyone has to sacrifice something in life.

This page is telling the readers about what Eddie experienced as a little kid. It talks about all the home problems he had and how this affected him while growing up. It speaks about how Eddie would try to get along with his dad as a kid and try and take after him. His dad was to stubborn and ignorant to spend time with him and would neglect him. Eddie and his brother Joe also got beat by their dad but his mom just left them helpless. This can be a reason as to why Eddie was a good man his entire life and looked after others.

This page is when he meets his third person. Eddie was very confused and had no idea who she was. She was explaining about how her husband made her a really big pier with rides and other stuff with it. This is really important because it connects with Eddie hence why her name is Ruby and the pier Eddie has always worked at was named Ruby Pier. It made sense to Eddie how they’re both connected because her husband owned the pier that he’s worked at his entire life like his dad.

Even though Mickey wanted to be with Eddies mom and his dad didn’t like that. His father couldn’t just leave him to die. He sacrificed his own life for a friend. This part is important because it changes Eddies whole perspective on things.

Eddie decided to let go of all the hatred and angry that he’s been holding his entire life because of his dad.

On this page he doesn’t believe that it’s actually his wife and he’s in disbelief as he tells himself it’s not her over and over again. This page is also important because it’s the first time since his death that he has cried.

This page is when Eddies wife explains the fourth lesson to him. Eddie feels like his wife left to soon and that they both lost everything. His wife explains to him that he never lost anything because she was still by his side the entire time he was loving her. She tells Eddie how loving someone that’s not there is just a different form of love and that even thought life has to end for everyone at some point love doesn’t have to end.

On this page Eddie tells his wife how he never fell out of love and how he only wanted her his entire life. Marguerite had felt his love even from heaven because of how strong lost love can be. As she held his hand out to Eddie it was his first time initiating contact which is important. Eddie is also confused as to why his wife looks the way she did on their wedding day and not sick or older. Even though she thought he would like it Eddie wanted to see what she looked like at the end of her life.

On this page Eddie explains that he felt like he did nothing with his life for working as a maintained worker for rides his entire life. He feels like he nothing in life. Tala tells Eddie that he’s good to children and makes them happier. She also mentions that he keeps them safe. This is important because it’s his last lesson. It’s for him to understand that he had a purpose in life and that he was a good person.
