For example in Beowulf a leader of the troop said, " In my day, my father was a famous man, and noble warrior named Ecgtheos. He outlasted many a long winter and went on his way. All over the world wise men in Council continue to remember him." (Heaney 266) This direct quote indicated that warriors and fighting men were held to a higher standard and were more respected within the Anglo Saxon community.  Where as women were meant to stay home and care for the kids and those without families were meant to serve man and Warriors. Above all of Anglo-Saxons valued  kindness to all people especially those in positions of power. "Even though God Almighty had made him eminent and powerful, a changed happened and he grew bloodthirsty, gave no more rings to honor the Danes, and suffered in the end for having plagued his people for so long. His life lost happiness so learn from this and understand true values." (Heaney 1710) Happiness is valued above all.  "Hrothgar’s queen, observing the courtesies.
