1. Greenhouse gases absorb heat radiating from the Earth's surface and release it back in all directions, including toward the Earth's surface.
2. Climate change is modifying the availability of water, making it scarcer in more regions. Global warming exacerbates water scarcity in regions already suffering from water stress and is leading to increased risk of agricultural droughts that affect crops, and ecological droughts that increase the vulnerability of ecosystems.
3. Show how some of the radiation from the sun goes into Earth's atmosphere to increase the temperature, and some goes back into space. But with the greenhouse gas blanket, radiation going back into space is trapped and comes back to earth twice as hot. This is why the air temperature changes.
4. In the United States, nearly 1/3 of greenhouse gases come from burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation.
5. In the US, the southern plains saw extremely hot weather and the worst drafts in Texas in 2012. Pakistan suffered heavy rains and widespread flooding in 2010 that left millions homeless.
6. In Greenland (1) mountain glaciers and polar ice caps are increasingly melting and adding water to the ocean, and (2) warming of the water in the oceans leads to expansion and therefore at a higher volume.
7. United States: In the summer of 2011, the southern Plains states suffered record heat.
8. Greenland: Could melting ice sheet raise global sea levels and inundate coastal regions?
9. Pakistan: Climate change may have contributed to heavy rains and widespread flooding in 2010 that left millions homeless.
10. Guatemala is vulnerable to extreme weather events. Climate change affected the change of seasons, brought more precipitation, hurricanes and droughts. As a result, farmers lost crops, increasing the risk of food and water insecurity in the country.
11. Countries, mostly those developed ones, should work jointly to reduce CO2 emissions, move their economies away from fossil fuels as soon as possible.
12. i Pacific region rising sea surface temperatures and ocean acidification threaten corals; corals that generate the sediment these islands require to remain stable. As well, there is a risk of increasing the stronger storms frequency, draught and salt water flood that washes the soil and affects crop planting.
13. Small nations are among the most vulnerable to climate change impacts, and by themselves cannot fight causalities and damages brought by climate change due to their poor economy. Larger, more industrialized countries cannot give up from fossil use, as all plants, industry depend on it. As well, they cannot decrease production.
14. Antarctic ice deflects some of the sun's rays away from the Earth, keeping temperatures livable. Breaking icebergs freely float in the ocean and near coasts, and if number increases, they trap ships in ice jam.
15. Antarctica is the pulse of the earth, as all life on Earth depends on it.
