We, as teachers has the responsibility to hone our abilities to be the best facilitator or role model to our students and it is through these trainings or seminars that we can gain such opportunity to be a step ahead of our students. As they say, learning is a life-long process and it shouldn't stop or end after getting our degree or our jobs but instead it should continue. Yet interesting because I saw myself learning and growing. I was push into my limits and was unknowingly growing. Getting eager every session to learn more about the English language and how to interact with students while applying the technique I gained through this training while having our classes this semester. I cannot say I am now fluent but this training reminded me to broaden my perspective in learning and speaking through the English language. Never limit one's self to learn more. Many thanks to the organizers and trainers for extending this training to our school. Thank you so much for the flexibility and understanding you gave us to somehow let us work and learn at our own pace. 

The talks, discussions, presentations, the sharings from co-participants and the asynchronous activities were very helpful in concretizing, validating and correcting what I have learned previously. Indeed, the training had afforded me with so many opportunities to grow where I unlearn a few things, relearn a lot and learn so many new things. 

I realized that I had been crudely doing EMI for years and yet I had no idea about this. Now, I am more conscious, more deliberate and more refined with my words, behaviors and teaching strategies taking into consideration that I am able to incorporate all the principles of EME into my classes.

I just was once an ordinary student when I was in Elementary, Secondary and in Tertiary level. An ordinary student who would always look for a spare time to relax and play. I got nervous when seeing teachers or professors and asked myself why they behaved such way. I thought if they could be kind even just an hour. We were bombarded with academic tasks and reprimanded from time to time. I joined academic and extra curricular activities to please them.

When I started teaching, I gradually understood everything. "Why do teachers get angry when students can't answer or won't pay attention, why do we need to study, why do we have to be professionally presentable, why do we have to understand our students, why do we have to train and prepare them for the next generation"

With the experiences I had and the constant trainings I have, I understand why I am here in my position right now. I could say that teaching is one of the top profession one could hope of.

Why I am in my position right now? EME allows me to grow professionally by constantly checking my limitation as young educator in the tertiary education. The subject matters are relevant to my field while the course trainers are well-equipped with the designs of the goal of EME. They are passionate and approachable to the participants which continuously builds rapport to the class.

The EME training is useful in everyday practice because it doesn’t talk only about the mastery and skill of English language but it also tackles the techniques that can be used in the classroom set-up.

I was hesitant to join or participate because I have no idea how it will go, whether I'll get bored or be interested, or will I get ideas or insights (which I really did!, Thanks to the various sharing of experiences from learners and master teachers), not to mention that weekends are our only personal time.
I am not a teacher by profession but because of my passion to share my knowledge and experiences in hospitality, I shifted my focus from industry to academe. Prior to teaching, I had a stint exposure as an F&B trainer where the need to prepare and conduct training for our company's workforce and practicum trainees is part of my job, thus, my role now as an instructor is just like a continuation of the tasks I have had before (but on a different level). Suppose previously, I deal with matured and professional groups. In that case, now, I have to calibrate my mindset that college is very critical as they're in between students (some lacking or weak sense of direction) and professionals (wherein the expectation of being serious is high).
After four weekends of attending the EME training, I gain a lot of insightful ideas from our master teachers, and co-learners, and from the training materials provided, especially on developing our English teaching and language skills that suit the needs of the hospitality and tourism management program.
I truly appreciate the people behind British Council and for exerting great efforts to come up with such an innovative undertaking because the outcome, is to build connection, understanding, and trust between people, globally, through arts and culture, education, and the English language!
