         <title>The Hunchback of Notre Dame - 1923</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>During the 1920's, <strong>movies</strong> and other forms of media were on the rise. A great example of a popular movie would be <em>The Hunchback of Notre Dame. </em>This silent film<em> was a romantic drama that starred Lon Chaney and was directed by Wallace Worsley. This movie was considered the "Super Jewel" of Universal Pictures (the film's distributor).  It was their most successful silent film, grossing over $3 million. </em></div>]]></description>

         <title>The Big Parade - 1925</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Another significant<strong> movie </strong>during the 1920's, was <em>The Big Parade. </em>This silent film was directed by King Vidor and it starred John Gilbert, , Renée Adorée, Hobart Bosworth, Tom O'Brien, and Karl Dane. This movie was very popular WWI film. It was one of the first war films that didn't glorify the war. To this day, <em>The Big Parade</em> influences many war films.</div>]]></description>

         <title>KDKA - 1920</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The first ever commercial <strong>radio</strong> station was KDKA in Pittsburgh, PA. This radio station went on the air for the first time on November 2, 1920. Its first broadcast was the returns of the Harding-Cox presidential election. The success that KDKA brought, not only with their broadcasts, but with there musical programs, motivated others to install similar radio stations. By the end of 1921, eight stations, like KDKA, were up and operating. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Broadcasting Baseball - 1921</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The first <strong>radio</strong> broadcast of a baseball game occurred in Pittsburgh on August 5, 1921. The teams that played against each other, were the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies. The game was announced by Harold Arlin, who worked for the station, KDKA. The popularity of broadcasting baseball games would go as far as the World Series. That broadcast would be seen later in 1921.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Jack Dempsey - Boxing</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many say that during the 1920's, the popularity of the <strong>sport</strong>, boxing, skyrocketed. One of the most influential boxers was Jack Dempsey. Dempsey was the world heavyweight champion for a great portion of the 1920's. After winning his first match for the title, a year before the 20's, he was able to defend his tile over the next six years, which was considered one of the greatest runs in boxing history. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Babe Ruth - Baseball</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>To this day, Babe Ruth is known for the<strong> sport</strong>, baseball. In the 1920's Babe Ruth was able to set some of the highest home run records during the 20's. For example, in his first season with the New York Yankees, Ruth was able to set a record of 54 home runs during that season, then towards the end of the 1920's, in 1927, to be exact, he set a new record of 60 home runs during a season. That record stood for 34 years. </div>]]></description>

Flappers, a generation of young women who wore their hair in bobs and clothed themselves in short skirts, changed the way that we view women's clothing, today. Women who considered themselves flappers, caused the rise in feminism that is still happening all because of the clothing that they chose to wear and the behaviors they had.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>The Electric Automatic Traffic Signal - 1923 </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One of the most influential <strong>inventions</strong> during the 1920's, was the electric automatic traffic signal. This invention was patented by Garrett Morgan. Morgan was the first African American to own a car in Cleveland. One of the best things about Morgan's design, was that it could be produced inexpensively, increasing the number of signals that could be installed, which reduced car accidents during the 20's.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Band-Aid, an<strong> invention</strong> used today, was invented in 1920. The inventors were Thomas Anderson and Earle Dickson, a Johnson &amp; Johnson employee. The fact that one could address their wounds without assistance, using the Band-Aid, encouraged the company that Dickson worked for, Johnson &amp; Johnson, to produce a safer, more sterile version of the Band-Aid. </div>]]></description>

She contributed to what was called, the <strong>Harlem Renaissance</strong>.Waters is most popularly known for being the first African American woman to sing "St. Louis Blues" on the stage. After singing that song, Waters began to get more singing gigs. In specific, Ethel Waters appeared at the Plantation Club in Harlem, in 1925. Her performance that night led her to Broadway. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Claude McKay was a very influential writer during the <strong>Harlem Renaissance</strong>. McKay had many great works, during his time. His best selling novel was called, <em>Home to Harlem. </em>It was published in 1928. This novel was a best-seller and it won the Harmon Gold Award. The book was very important during the 20's, because it addressed the prejudices that society had on the African American race.</div>]]></description>

Using types of advertising that made the people of America think that the product is "fun", made Coca-Cola popular, not only in the 20"s, but today as well. The attractive advertisement that this product had, caused many to want the drink. The demand for Coca-Cola, increased its stocks in stores, because the stores feared losing business. </div>]]></description>

The attractive ways that Maybelline advertised their products, caused makeup to be bought my many women. In fact, before Maybelline's advertisements in the 20's, things like beauty parlors weren't popular, but by 1929, there were over 18,000 beauty parlors all over the United States.  </div>]]></description>

         <title>Speakeasies </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>During the 20's, <strong>prohibition</strong> was put into place. As anybody would know, the American people weren't very happy wtih the inability to obtain alcohol. That unhappiness led to the creation of speakeasies. Speakeasies were hidden sections of an establishment that were used to illegally sell alcoholic beverages during Prohibition. To enter a speakeasy, one would need to say a password and in order to buy alcohol, there would be secret words that had nothing to do with the drink given. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Bootlegging</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Bootlegging was the illegal business of making and transporting alcoholic beverages during <strong>prohibition</strong>. Two popular alcoholic beverages that were bootlegged, were Moonshine and Bathtub Gin. Somebody who is well known for bootlegging, is Al Capone. Capone ran a multi-million dollar operation in Chicago based on bootlegging, prostitution, and gambling. His business was more attractive because of the alcohol that could be purchased.  </div>]]></description>
