Infancy & Toddlerhood

Ages from 0-36 months
The concept I related to the most in this stage is the information process theory. The information process theory is used to help see how infants and toddlers are developing cognitively. This theory is relatable to me and everyone because of the fact that we are all born with information processors which means that our minds are capable to recognize events that happened years back thanks to the memory process. The memory process involves mental stores like sensory memory, working memory, and long-term memory that works from the day we are born till late adulthood. Without this theory, I wouldn't be able to remember the beautiful parts of my childhood like sitting in that little green chair behind me so I could be closer to the Tv than anyone else!

Early Childhood

Ages 3-6
In the early childhood stage, the concept I related to the most was motor development and gross motor skills. Motor development is a skill that uses large muscles of the body along with hand-eye coordination to be able to complete tasks that influence growth during the early childhood stage. Some of these tasks include running, jumping, and climbing. As a child grows these gross motor skills become more advanced like learning how to ride a bike. At this particular stage in my life, I can clearly remember learning how to ride a bike and really focusing on how to run faster while playing freeze tag. In my elementary school, we were always learning how to do new things involving our body movement which was always so fun.

Middle Childhood

Ages from 9-11
During middle childhood, there is a concept in which advanced motor development starts occurring. Advanced motor development is when kids' motor skills start greatly advancing and they become able to run faster, multitask, balance on a balance beam, successfully complete monkey bars, and be able to do flips and tricks. This stage helps kids sustain agility which is why I was able to do a handstand and walk at the same time because of the advanced motor skills I was developing during this stage.

Adolescence

Ages from 11-18
During this stage, the concept I related to the most was the adolescent moodiness that is found in the physical and cognitive development in adolescence. The concept of adolescent moodiness is that it has to do with young teens dealing with sudden rapid shifts in emotion which causes “moodiness”. Young teens tend to have a lot of mood swings within a day that can be due to hormones associated with aggression. I can associate with this concept because I firsthand went through all these mood swings when I was in middle school and high school I did not want to talk to anyone and I was always stuck in my room. I remember never wanting to go to family functions because everyone annoyed me. However, as I got older it slowly went away.

Emerging Adulthood

Ages 18-22
In the emerging adulthood stage, the concept I related to the most was the transition into adulthood. This stage is all about becoming more independent and less dependant on your parents financially and economically. Coming into emerging adulthood means that you are ready to go off into the real world to make a life of your own, go off to college, find a job, and a home to live in without your parents. I relate to this stage so much because I consider myself currently being in the emerging adulthood stage as I am transitioning to becoming more independent and providing for myself in all ways. Since I have graduated high school I have found myself leaving my teen days behind and being more responsible for what I am doing in my life.

Age Graded Event: At this time in my life I had just turned three years old when I entered Pre-K3. The eligible age to start school was three years old, so my mom decided to enroll me in the program that was available in my town.

Non-normative Event: There was a very abrupt event that happened to me during this stage of my life where I busted my chin open due to riding a scooter over a bumpy surface. Although I don't remember this event clearly, I have the scar on my chin as a reminder of the horrific incident I put my mom through at such a young age.

History Graded Event

A history-graded event that impacted the nation during this stage of my life was the 9/11 incident. I was born on April 12, 1999, which made me two years old at the time when this horrific incident happened back in 2001. This has influenced my life for as long as I can remember because 9/11 became a historic event that gets talked about each year in remembrance of the innocent people who lost their lives at the world trade center due to terrorist attacks.

Age Graded Event: During the early childhood stage all kids seem to love bikes and learn how to ride them. Well around this age, I too learned how to ride a bike! I can clearly remember my grandpa taking me to the Civic Center Park every afternoon with a fresh vanilla ice cream cone to practice and perfect my bike riding training wheel days!

Non-Normative Event: As my bike riding skills advanced from training wheels to hands-free, I was going down a steep hill full of loose gravel when I let go of the handlebars and fell all the way down that hill. I will never forget this day because it was so unexpected and I most definitely didn't expect to get hurt in the way that I did! To this day I still have the scars from that horrible fall.

A History graded event that impacted many lives in the year 2005 was when hurricane Katrina hit landfall in New Orleans on August 23, 2005. Hurricane Katrina is known to be the largest and 3rd strongest hurricane ever recorded to make landfall in history. I was about six years old when this happened and although this hurricane did not affect my family personally, we were all devastated and heartbroken over all the lives that were lost and homes that were destroyed due to this incident. Katrina's huge impact caused many widespread economic issues which is why this natural disaster is still talked about till this day.

Age Graded Event: During this stage of my life I was learning how to jump rope and play dodgeball with all my classmates at the end of my elementary school days. Playing became more fun and we became more advanced and during my time, my classmates and I learned to do the same things around the same age!

Non-Normative Event: Oh how I will never forget this day of my life! I would have to say that I was about 9 or 10 years old when I smashed my finger with the car door when we had just arrived at our hotel in South Padre Island. When it happened I was so shocked that I didn't bother to take my finger out and I just stood there. It wasn't until my mom opened the door I took my finger out and it was throbbing because of the pain. Never again will I be that careless because that pain is unexplainable!

Back in 2009 a virus known as the swine flu occurred and affected thousands of people. A strain of this exact virus which is called Influenza type B affected me at this stage of my life. This flu was the worst thing to happen to me because I remember being in bed the whole time with a high fever. My family was very concerned, but thankfully I was able to overcome it. The swine flu is something that will always be recorded in history because new variants are always resurfacing and having studies from previous viruses can become helpful to overcome the new strains like the Corona Virus.

Donald Trump won the presidential election on November 8, 2016, by 306 Electoral Votes. I clearly remember being in my first-period government class eating breakfast while we were waiting and watching the results. Trump's presidential election seemed to have a huge impact on many including me, and to this day his presidency is still heavily talked about.

Age Graded Event: Graduating from high school at the age of eighteen from Mercedes High School in the year 2017.

Non Normative Event: Finding out my dad was moving far away from Texas without letting any of us know years after my parents got a divorce. This took a toll on me because all my life I had grown up with both my parents in the same town, but things changed within a blink of an eye.

The Woman's March took place after President Trump's inauguration. This was a worldwide protest that was held by women all over the world due to president Trump's statements that were considered offensive to many women. This protest made me content and I'm more than sure this protest positively affected women in every right way to show we too have a voice.
