         <description><![CDATA[<div>The patient initially presented with a sore throat, fever, and swollen tonsils.<br><br>A rapid antigen detection test for Group A Streptococcus was performed and was negative.<br><br>A throat swab was collected, and the patient was sent home.<br><br></div><div>The patient returned the next day with a worsening sore throat, difficulty swallowing, pus on the tonsils, and his uvula was deviated toward one side of the throat.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The microbiologist observing the throat culture in the plates noted β-hemolytic colonies on the blood agar plates after 24 hours incubation.<br><br>The microbiologist used a gram stain to observe the culture under a light microscope which revealed gram-positive cocci-shaped bacteria growing in long chains. <br><br>This information from the microbiologist allowed the physician to make the diagnosis of Peritonsillar abscess caused by bacterial Group A Streptococcus.</div>]]></description>
