Kunnskapen kan både være ny, eller ting de sitter med fra før - men som blir satt i lys igjen på nye måter. Tilpasninger kan være forskjellig informasjon, arbeidsmåter, teknikker, lekser, strategier, virkemidler og verktøy. Mestringsfølelse og mestringsglede står sterkt i tilpasset opplæring. At den enkelte elev får den hjelpen og tette oppfølgingen fra læreren som trengs. (Nok tid til å virkelig forstå hver oppgave.) Selv om noen trenger lengre tid kan de uansett vite like mye, men kan fort "henge etter".
