Do you remember a time when they said, “It’s because of those video games.” You knew that wasn’t the reason, but they wouldn’t change their minds, no matter what you said. You must’ve felt frustrated, misunderstood and aggravated because that's what they assumed in the first place.

It’s ridiculous to say that video games cause violence. It’s a commonly used argument, mostly used by parents, but I’m here to prove that the violence caused by people who play video games, aren’t driven by the video games themselves.

Evidence from the article “Do video games cause violence” by Procon.org states that 90% of young men play video games. If the majority of men play video games, then trying to link video games to crimes that men commit just doesn’t make sense. It’s insignificant. You can’t chalk up a harmless hobby as a leading factor of violence that targets the youth. It’s simply about having fun. It can be a good outlet too. Would you rather have people taking their aggression out on their peers, over fictional game characters?

Instead of blaming video games, we should teach people to control their anger better. Although there are nice and soothing video games out there, there are competitive video games too. As a result, many people’s behaviour gets out of hand. If people can’t control their anger, and become violent, they shouldn’t be playing them. The same thing with other games that include large amounts of violence. If someone isn’t in the mental state to be exposed to such things, they shouldn’t be playing. Some people can handle it, but others can be affected by it. It all depends on the person, and you are responsible for how you respond to video games, not the games themselves. Young children would be especially impressionable.

some people may say that only video games include violent material that can be exposed to the youth, but I argue that lots of content around the world includes violence. Adults will suggest that you should read books instead of video games. However, books can contain violent material too. If that’s the case, are books also too violent for children? Do they cause violence? If movies have graphic content or visuals, do they cause violence? Why are video games the only thing that’s being targeted for violence? There is going to be violent content in media. It all depends on the person who is watching. If you’re so strict about games, rather than

- blaming the video game, or media, you should learn to monitor the kind of content your child is watching. Some people think that video games only cause violence, but that just isn’t true either. Video games could be used to make you feel emotion, spread awareness, share a message.

If we research the real reason, we can work towards actually stopping it.
