It was just the backstory so it is easy to predict that he will get on the boat next and the story will really begin. But for next in Pi's life I feel like he will pursue a path of philosophy, considering all the wise and philosophical he said centering around religion. More specifically, a teacher of philosophy because there are a few chapters mentioning Mr. Kumar and the impact he made in Pi's life.

1. In chapter 8, Pi explains his dad talking about how he should never, ever go near a tiger, hyena, zebra, orangutan, etc. Do you think this will instill long lasting fear in Pi? Or does it make him want to spend more time with these animals to be rebellious?

2. In chapter 4, Pi uses a different perspective to explain how animals might feel about living in a zoo. He asks how you would feel if someone came, kicked you out of your home and shouted that you are free! You are as free as a bird! Pi informs us how animals wouldn’t like that either. As he explains, animals are territorial and putting them in a zoo doesn’t upset them, it gives them safer territory. Do you agree with Pi’s statement? Have you ever thought about this topic in this perspective? What do you think caused Pi to have this idea?

3. In chapter 15, when someone from a different perspective other than Pi’s is explaining Pi’s home in Canada they mention the Bible on the bedside table. Pi also talks about religion quite often. Do you feel like Pi’s religion was a big part of his childhood? Why do you think he wanted to practice so many different religions? Do you think there was a reason that the author decided to mention those artifacts (Bible, Shiva’s statue, Islamic prayer mat) specifically, or do you think it was just another detail?

I feel like things will start to get better for Pi. He has finally accepted his families death, found the survival kit, and that no boat is coming to save him (at least not for a while.) The hyena is dead and it seems that Pi and Richard Parker are starting to warm up to each other.
Pi was trying to come up with ways to get rid of Richard Parker, but now he has a new plan, as it says in the novel, “ Plan Number Seven: Keep Him Alive.” (Page 166) Since Pi is beginning to accept that he is alone with Richard Parker he is now planning how they will stay alive. I predict that Pi and Richard Parker will bond and make it out, but Pi will need the help for Richard Parker to survive.

The Zebra printed sweater symbolizes the hyenas dominance and power over the zebra. The carton of Sunny D (orange Juice) with a dead face across the top demonstrates how the hyena killed Orange Juice. To Drink a carton of orange juice you must pick it up by the neck which is exactly how the hyena strangled and took the life of orange juice the orangutan.

Yes, it is true that Pi survived, but it was more due to his mental state than the animals or the materials he had. Pi and Richard Parker didn’t really have a continuation of their bond once they landed in Mexico but it did last for a good 7 months. I do think he was lucky and wouldn’t have survived another day due to the elements possibly his boat breaking down, being attacked, etc.
