David goes back to his house that his grandfather, Elias Strorm built 

David tells Uncle Axel that he was telepathically talking to his half cousin Rosalind because he trusts Uncle Axel

Uncle Axel then tells David not to tell anyone that he can communicate telepathically

At that time, Uncle Axel did not know there were more people that could communicate telepathically besides David and Rosalind

David then promises Uncle Axel not to use his telepathic abilities

Rosalind also made the same two promises as David

A group from the fringes then launches an invasion on waknuk

David then realises that the leader of the group from the fringes looks almost identical to his father Joseph Strorm

The leader of the group that asks David whether his dad is Joseph Strorm and if this place is waknuk and David says yes to both questions.

Flashback: The inspector killed a cat that he thought was a deviation because it had no tail, to find out later, that that specific cat breed isn’t supposed to have a tail.

The inspector later got shamed for killing a cat that was normal

David got a splinter on his hand, while his family was focusing on something else, he went to clean and bandage it up.

Later,his mother scolded him for doing a poor job at bandaging.

Davids father accuses him of asking the Devil for a third

Joseph tells David that he has “blasphemed” by wishing his body were different and for finding “fault with the Norm.”

Joseph makes David repeat phrases that he has learned in Sunday school, like “The Norm is the Image of God,” and reminds David that a Mutant is “accursed in the sight of God and man.”

Joseph sends David to his room to pray for forgiveness.

Aunt Harriet’s suicide scared David as now he knew that even the slightest deviations could cause such a tragic event

David then prays to god to make him normal again as he is scared that his telepathic ability gets found out and has to suffer the consequences

The next day he still could talk to Sophie telepathically which meant that he still is not normal

David then talks to uncle axel about waknuk and the old people and why god is punishing people for sinning.

David then gets sent to a school and then shares what he has learnt to the other telepaths which increases everyones knowledge as they could do better by communicating what they learnt telepathically

They manage to live for 6 years without getting caught, until a new member joins the group

Annes informs the group that she will marry Alan

David then tells Uncle Axel about their wedding and how badly Anne wants to marry Alan to the point she puts the whole group of telepaths at risk of being discovered

David is also absolutely certain that no one would kill Anne just to not get found out despite knowing how Anne put them all at risk just because she wants to be with Alan.

The relationship between Anne and Alan also makes David question his relationship with Rosalind and the idea that David and Rosalind could be together seems impossible due to the fact that Rosalind is the daughter of Angus Morton

Rachel then tells the group that Alan has been found dead with an arrow in his neck, Anne then believes its caused by one of the telepaths in the group

Micheal then suggests to the group that everyone should be prepared to flee incase Anne reports them

Anne then commits suicide due to the fact that Alan is dead and leaves behind a suicide note which Annes neighbour found and gives it to Racheal even though it was supposed to go to the inspector which Racheal then burns it after reading it

David makes a few preparations at night and decided he would pack other stuff the next day.

Katherine and sally had been taken away.

David is being told that he, together with Petra, has to flee immediately.

Katherine and sally shut their minds so that they can better disguise themselves as normal people.

Rosalind takes her father’s horses so that David and Petra can ride away from walnut in baskets.

Rosalind tells David that she and her mother, who had suspected something was going on and wanted to help.

David learns that Rosalind had to kill a person that was following them.

Katherine got tortured into confessing. Sally, not wanting to get tortured, confesses.

The authorities are very angry over their escape.

David fantasising about Rosalind

The fringes dropped down from the tress to kidnap the group of telepaths into panniers

The fringes was talking about how the old people thinks that god made them in the image of god then god destroyed them due to pride, which is a sin.

Rosalind finds out that there are new people, the new people gets introduced into the story and they are working to make the world a better place, unlike the old people. They also aspire to not be like the savages.

God wanted these people to come in to help stabilise the world, they criticised the old people for the mindset they had.

The old people overthink too much, and they refused to face the responsibilities they had created for themselves
