Speech context is the way that people use to communicate and transmit message orally and verbally. While in speech style, it is the form of languange that the speaker uses which characterized bye the degree of formality. In speech context it can be intrapersornal or interpersonal. In intrapersonal, your the one who speaks and also the one who will receive the message, it short you're talking to yourself. While in interpersonal, it involves 2 persons only, and we have the four types of interpersonal, the dyad communication, small group, public communication and lastly the mass communication. The dyad commuication occurs only for two people, in small group we just need three but not more than twelve people, in public communication this is how you will deliver your message to a large audience/s or it is like a face to face communication and the audience is just chosen, and lastly, the mass communication this occurs through televisions, radio, newspapers, magazines and other types of media, like your audience is all around the world. Now, let's talk about the different types of speech style. In speech style, we have intimate, casual, consultative, formal and frozen. In intimate, it occurs between among close friends and family members, it is more like a private conversation. While here in casual, this is common among peers and friends, like chika's but you'll not share a secrets with them. Here in consultative, it is a professional conversation, like you're talking to your doctor. In formal communicating, this is a one way communication and lastly we have the frozen, this style is the style that is unchanged or can't be change.

For my experience, I already experience the public communication in my fourth and sixth grade because of our project called SIP or Science Investigatory Project. In this project I can confidentally say that i've experience public communication because you will speak in front of many people, and your audiences our the judges, teachers and students. Also, in this project is you'll represent your own product or what we called your own investigatory project. And you will also answer some questions that was given by the judges.

-Bandagusa

Using appropriate speech style is essential for communicating effectively. By doing so, we convey our meaning and intention. It also helps us engage with our audience and establish credibility. Lastly, the right speech style prevents misunderstandings and helps us to better communicate.

In my personal experience, I have a teacher who struggled with effective communication. We all know who 👀. She often left us with unclear instructions for activities and worksheets. She uses jargon and broad language about her subject instead of clear explanations.

Another challenge I faced is understanding my teachers. One of my teacher uses Rinkonada Dialect a lot and I find it not inclusive for everyone. When I shared my concerns, she switched to using tagalog and rinkonada. Which greatly helped and improved my understanding.

As a student, understanding and applying speech context and speech style in real life is essential. It helps in communicating effectively with different people, such as teachers, classmates, and even family members. Throughout my experience as a student, I’ve realized that adjusting how I speak depending on the situation plays a big role in building good relationships and expressing my thoughts clearly.

In classroom, the way I speak to my teachers is very different from how I speak to my friends. When addressing teachers, I use a formal speech style, showing respect and politeness. For example, when I ask questions or request help from a teacher, I make sure to use proper language and avoid slang. I remember a time when I approached my math teacher for help with a problem. Instead of saying, "Ha? wala akong ma-gets!" like I would with friends, I said, "Nahihirapan po akong intindihin 'tong topic, could you please explain it again?" This formal tone made my request sound more respectful, and my teacher was happy to help.

In contrast, when I’m with my classmates or friends, I switch to a more informal speech style. We often use slang, mix languages, and talk in a relaxed manner. For example, during group projects, bardagulan, and casual conversations, our speech is full of jokes and informal expressions. This helps us feel comfortable around each other and makes the atmosphere. The informal speech style kept the group dynamic fun and positive.

Another important application of speech style is when dealing with conflict or disagreements. I had an argument with a classmate over a project, and at first, we were both speaking in a harsh tone, which made things worse. I realized that using a calm and respectful tone would help solve the issue more quickly. I apologized and explained my side in a gentle manner, and it helped us resolve the conflict. This experience showed me how speech style can affect the outcome of a disagreement, especially in a school where teamwork is important.

-Villareal, Esther May O.

Frozen is use in religious, legal and a very formal settings and occasions. Highly formal and unchanging, often memorized or scripted. Like the " Lupang Hinirang" or Phillipine National Anthem, "Panunumpa Sa Watawat Ng Pilipinas." And more.

My own experiences:
When I am nervous I usually calm my self, motivates my self, and I have a trick or technique that will help my nervousness, especially in a presentations or school presentations and reports, I do a breathing, inhale and exhale, then thinking and imagining that I'm really excited to make me confident and motivates me. And sometimes I ask some advices to our small groups and friends. And then I present it to class and maintain my performance or confident to have a great presentation.

Speech Context and Speech Style can significantly influence interactions with students, teachers, and peers. Understanding context and speaking style helps ensure that communication is appropriate, effective, and respectful.

When communicating with teachers, especially in formal settings such as presentations or parent-teacher conferences, I use a more polite and formal style of speech, focusing on clarity and precision. For example, when asking for feedback or clarification on assignments, I made sure my questions were thoughtful and showed appreciation for their time.

However, in casual moments, such as after class, my speaking style changes to a more relaxed and conversational tone, which sometimes leads to richer, deeper conversations.

In class discussions, my speaking style is usually more structured and academic, especially in group work, to make sure I get my points across clearly. Although, in informal settings, such as breaktime or hallway conversations, my language was filled with slang, humorous style, and shared experiences that helped build friendships and maintain social ease. Switching between these styles helped create a balance between maintaining academic focus and building personal connections with my classmates.

In group projects, the consultative speech style often came into play. While assigning tasks and brainstorming, it was important to communicate ideas clearly but also allow room for others to give input. At the start, when we were organizing and assigning tasks, I used a more authoritative and directive style to ensure everyone understood their roles. But once work was underway, I shifted to a more collaborative and inclusive tone to make sure everyone felt comfortable contributing ideas and asking for help if needed.

– Velasquez, Faith

I believe that people have their own ways, and style on how to communicate. When we tackled speech context and speech style in oral communication, I learned that it is truly important that we should know our approaches on how we should converse with other individuals considering the context before, we start a conversation.

For me, I adjust how I talk based on who I'm with and where I am. With friends, I talk to them casually, depending on how close we are as individuals. In social or family gatherings, or in any formal settings, I speak with formality in my tone. I also used formal languages, and don't say inappropriate jokes around them, unlike when I am conversing casually with friends.

Also, I love having conversations with myself. When I am alone, I reflect on what i have done during the day, assessing the situations, and my emotions, gaining a deeper understanding of my thoughts. It helps me to connect with myself.

In my experience as a student, I have observed that in the classroom the teacher-student has formal relationships but outside of it, it can shift from formal to informal, in a more friendly approach.

I remember my former math teacher in elementary. One afternoon, my friend and I approached him, said hello, and after that he asked if we understood the lesson he taught us earlier, and we answered "only a little bit of it" and he patiently re-explained it in a simpler tone, using examples and even jokes to help us understand.

Reflecting on the lesson of speech context and speech style, I’ve come to realize how important it is to consider the situation and the audience when delivering a speech. The context refers to the setting in which the speech takes place, while the style is how the speaker chooses to express their ideas, whether formally or informally. Reflecting on this, I remember my campaign for school campus officer in 10th grade. I had to talk to all the junior high students to earn their votes. I chose a simple and easy-to-understand style because I needed to connect with everyone quickly and clearly. I kept my message centered on what I could offer the school and made sure to speak in a way that felt natural to my peers. It wasn’t too formal but was serious about the role I wanted.

In senior high, I also realized something important about trust. We should know who to trust especially when it comes to sharing personal things, problems or secrets or even those so called "crushes" we've had. Sometimes we get too comfortable with people thinking that we can share anything but not everyone deserves to know everything about us, about our life or what is happening in our life. It's important to have people we can rely on those who will keep our secrets safe. At the same time there are people we can have casual conversations with, where we can joke around and chat, but those aren't the same as the ones who should know our deeper, personal thoughts.

So in both my campaign and in real life, I learned that understanding when and how to speak depends a lot on the context. Whether it’s giving a campaign speech or deciding who to trust with personal information because in the end being clear and knowing who you're speaking to matters.

-Brazal.
