Maslow’s humanistic theory of personality states that people achieve their full potential by moving from basic needs to self-actualization. His Hierarchy of Needs ranks human necessities from the most basic and physical needs, to the most advanced needs geared toward self-actualization. A person must acquire and master each level of need before proceeding to the next level. Maslow studied the personalities of those who have reached self-actualization and found that they had many things in common. He believed that self-actualizers exhibit a coherent personality and represent a high level of psychological health and functioning.

Source: https://courses.lumenlearning.com/boundless-psychology/chapter/humanistic-perspectives-on-personality/#:~:text=Maslow's%20Humanistic%20Theory%20of%20Personality,basic%20needs%20to%20self-actualization.

Marting Seligman is a pioneer of Positive Psychology not only because he has a systematic hypothesis of why happy people are happy, but also because he investigates it using the scientific method. People who had identified and exploited their rare combination of "signature qualities," such as humanity, temperance, and persistence, were the most happy and upbeat, according to Seligman.

The Three Dimensions of Happiness

1. Pleasant life- is realized if we learn to appreciate and savor simple pleasures like companionship, nature, and our physical needs. We can either remain contentedly stuck at this point, or we can move on to experience

2. Good Life- which is attained by discovering our unique virtues and strengths and using them creatively to improve our lives.

3. Meaningful Life- where we find a deep sense of fulfillment by using our unique strengths for a greater purpose than ourselves

Source:
https://www.pursuit-of-happiness.org/history-of-happiness/martin-seligman-psychology/?fbclid=IwAR1MqVIuPhuS29NQNRoFJfDNTtZknBgc2profqsygaUaGbINIiH5VMAa0S0

Ultimately, the four theories share the same principle of searching for purpose and living that purpose with the best version of ourselves.

In a teaching and learning situation, the humanist principle can aid us by reminding ourselves what and why we partook in this journey in the first place. This raises questions such as "Why was this my chosen career path?", "What/who am I doing this for?", "In what way can I accomplish what I want through this career path?", "Why should I know about this?", "What purpose does this knowledge serves for me?"

By being regularly aware of our choices, our emotions, our thoughts, and our feelings, we constantly face the need to evaluate our current position and posit methods to better deliver the best and most self-gratifying method of learning and instruction.
