This source tells me that the lives of teenagers were tough, as they did not have enough food to eat and was suffering from starvation and famine, which could have led to them having health problems in the future.

The project I am working on is how the lives of teenagers was like before and after the war.
During the war, the lives of teenagers was unbearable as compared to before the war. Even though the locals were ruled by the British before the war, they still had enough food to eat and lives was still able to continue quite smoothly, although they had to study English and about the history and geography of the British empire.
But during the war, the Japanese took over Singapore and became the new ruler of Singapore. Since then, lives was extremely tough for the locals. Due to the hatred the Japanese had for the Chinese, the Chinese were often caught without any reasonable purpose or reason. Many of the Chinese died even if they were innocent and did not provoke the Japanese or did anything wrong.
