This video is about the exploration of some of the discoveries in the past 15 years that have transformed the understanding of the changes going on in the Adolescent brain. Thomas Armstrong discusses the reduction of gray matter through pruning, the increase of white matter for faster nerve impulse transmission, the creation of new brain cells through neurogenesis, the progression of pruning from back to front of the brain, and the differing rates of maturation between the emotional and reasoning brain. Thomas Armstrong ended the video by explaining how teachers and parents have such a huge responsibility for the way kids' and students' brains develop. This is so important to me in becoming a teacher because I know I have such a big responsibility that I need to achieve.

This video is about how a person's most intensive period of brain development typically happens at about age 12. It then talks into puberty, and when the body starts changing the brain does as well. It talks about how kid's brains go into developmental overdrive, thickening the grey matter in the prefrontal cortex used for judgment, critical thinking, and self-control. I found this interesting because it tied into the first video "6 Facts about the Adolescent Brain." The video also talked about the peak time to optimize a person's brain development is in middle school. This makes being a middle school teacher so important.

This video starts by talking about 'myths' that people say about the adolescent brain, and then it goes into the truth. The video says "The truth is that instead of raging hormones, what's happening is we have remodeling in the brain in ways we never could have predicted. We now understand two big things are happening in the brain, things you as an adult can support adolescents and developing well and if you're an adolescent you actually can use this to help your brain grow optimally." I found this interesting, and it truly makes sense. The video then talks about imagining as a child that you are growing as a tree, and all the branches and leaves are growing in the brain. I loved this analysis because it made more sense to me thinking about the connections between that and then the connections in the actual brain with neurons and synapses. This video I found the most informative and easiest to follow. I liked how it had a lot of images following what he was describing.

From watching all these videos it is clear that every step has importance of its own when taking into account the influence on adolescent behaviour. Pruning the grey matter is important since it simplifies the cognitive processes and increases the intentionality of the thought process of adolescents. The nerves transfer impulses more quickly as a result of the increased white matter, which influences the behavior by encouraging better information intake. Even while neurogenesis is more pronounced in the early stages of development, it still contributes to the capacity for thinking and affects behavior by helping with the development of memories and emotional control. These systems work together to determine the complex way the adolescent brain develops. Overall I believe everything in the videos is so important, but these were some of the key things I pointed out that were discussed in every video.

When it comes to their impact on adolescent neuroplasticity, I learned that pruning improves flexibility by removing ineffective synapses and strengthening important connections. By creating a quicker system for signal transmission, the expansion of white matter promotes neuroplasticity and helps the brain adjust to new information. By introducing new neurons and creating new connections and pathways, neurogenesis contributes to neuroplasticity. Together, these mechanisms essentially support the development of a flexible and dynamic adolescent brain that is open to the chances and challenges that come with this crucial developmental stage.
