To the eastern side of the Java subduction zone there is a four plate junction, Philippine c plate, Eurasian plate, Australian and the pacific plate. There is a bend in the subduction zone on the Eastern side of the Java subduction zone, this explains the cluster of earthquakes at different depths on top of each other. Along the Western coast line of Sumatra there is a massive subduction zone, with the Australian plate being sub ducted from the east to the west, sub ducting under the island of Sumatra.
