I personally think that people should not be fined for not recycling. If they fine people for recycling, people would not recycle genuinely because of saving the earth by renewing and reusing old stuffs. I believe recycling will come along if one cares about the environment around them. It is not wrong to not recycle nor is it right, i find it neutral and we also don't stereotype those who contribute to recycling are good people. If one wants to recycle, they will. If not, fining them would not also be a smart idea to force and emphasize on recycling as people don't understand the meaning and use of it behind what's enforced. Here is one advantage for recycling.

" It reduces pollution. Industrial waste today is the main source of all types of pollution. Recycling of industrial products such as cans, chemical, plastics helps to cut down pollution levels considerably, as these materials are re-used, instead of throwing them away irresponsibly. " - Anonymous, 2010 reference from http://www.conserve-energy-future.com/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-recycling.php

Pollution is one of the reasons why people reinforce in recycling. As we can see, canals, rivers and beaches are very polluted these days. Not only is it unpleasant to our eyes, also to our nose. People are very lazy to throw their rubbish in the recycling bin and some just throw it along the walk paths while walking. They claim it is inconvenient too as recycling bins are not very often spotted everywhere. Therefore, they would not prefer to recycle and at most, they would most probably just throw it in the bin.

On the other hand, here is one disadvantage for recycling.

" It is not always cost effective. Recycling is not always cost-effective. Sometimes, there may be a need to establish separate factories to process reusable products. This may create more pollution as they would go under the process of cleaning, storage and transportation. " - Anonymous, 2010 reference from http://www.conserve-energy-future.com/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-recycling.php

This anon said that it is not always cost effective and i totally agree with that. They need to hire workers and pay them for separating waste and processing it to reusable products. Many people do not think about the pros and cons of recycling as they always mention its good side. Therefore, I think a very less amount of people would recycle due to the opinion of recycling is not always cost effective.

I went on a learning journey with my primary school a few years back when i was in p4. I visited a place where all rubbish are collected in huge containers and they unpack them on the floor to separate items that could be recycled. It was a good experience to have but the place was really unpleasant-smelling. I see workers having a hard time shifting aside all the items which are able to recycle and it was really tough. We could just dispose the waste all aside and not separating them into small groups for recycling if it is not cost effective.

People should not be fine for recycling as it is not logical to fine people for what hey should do to their own property. For example,Any private documents or stuff that people don't want other to see. And, there is no use and no point to force people to recycle because most of them dont even know the reason behind recycling .

But I totally agree that some people should definitely be fined.

Like people who thinks that recycling are 1.inconvenient 2. Not enough space at home 3. Who thinks that it's doesn't make a difference or just plain stubborn and feels that it is hard to do .And some people who just want to watch the earth burn. PLEASE READ LAST PARA AS I CANNOT COPY PASTE.

In case you didn't know, recycling saves lots of energy, recycling doesn't have to produce natural resources Which saves a whole lot costs. Secondly it reduces landfills , Which people don't like. Thirdly,it's saves our recourses and wildlife including our life and mother earth. Just even recycling paper alone, saves hundred and millions of paper. Lastly, we all learn this in geography ,it does a big effect in our climate, don't you recently feel the the cold is very cold and when it's hot its very hot?

" Recycling produces considerably less carbon, which reduces the amount of unhealthy greenhouse gas omissions."Ronnie Citron.August 4 , 2011 9:07.

http://os.care2.com/all/5-reasons-why-people-dont-recycle-and-5-reasons-they-should#1

Growing up in Malaysia before moving to Singapore to study and I still go back now and then , I have seen people burning plastic bags mixed with other rubbish . I can smell strong burned plastic and rising black smoke. It is obviously not good for health , environment and climate. For those people who burn plastic bags and rubbish just for FUN or don't know it harms, they should know and deserve to get fined!

In my opinion recycling is not a must but there are also limits

to what people should and should not do . Limits that others

should abide by considering that you don't throw rubbish

anywhere as it pleases you or just randomly place things or

unwanted items in the void deck hoping that others

would clear things up for you . There are many advantages

for recycling and one of those are , recycling being a good

thing for the environment that we leave in and it also help

conserve our natural resources . There are also many

different forms of recycling , such as our first prime minister

Mr Lee who create water recycling to provide Singapore with

water in the future . Hence , should we fine

people for not recycling , since not everyone will accept this

as a logical solution but if only those who crosses ' the line'

are punish people will accept this as a long term solution .

Therefore there should be a fine line wherepeople who

should be punished and those who don't .

taken from

this website states the history on how people take recycling as in the past

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Although the word "recycle" was not coined until
the late 1960s, recycling has been a trash disposal option for centuries.
Native Americans and early settlers routinely reused resources and avoided
waste. Materials recovery was also a significant contributor to the U.S. effort
during World War II, when businesses and citizens alike salvaged metal, paper,
rubber, and other scarce commodities for military use. But the emergence of the
"throwaway society" of the 1950s helped extinguish any residual
recycling impetus. With seemingly unlimited landfill space, disposable and
single-use products and packaging became the norm in the ensuing decades.
Recycling did not regain popularity until the late 1960s and early 1970s, when
environmental concerns rose to the fore in a 'green revolution." The first
national Earth Day celebration in 1970 heralded antilitter campaigns, the
creation of the federal Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA), and some
municipal and corporate recycling programs.

http://www.referenceforbusiness.com/encyclopedia/Pro-Res/Recycling-Programs.html#ixzz3VYLGuEaC
