Some teachers in my group expressed concern and frustration evaluating a Science topic. They found it difficult to determine if the student accurately supported the prompt or used the correct terminology because they were not familiar with the content. I know it's been discussed many times, but I don't know what the result was...should there be a school wide rubric for writing? The evidence content will differ, but the need for source-based and cited evidence could be universal. Having just gone to a writing training last week, today's experience made me realize how confusing it must be for students to write in different subjects but have significant differences in expectations. How will students understand that what they write in a content area may earn them a low score on FSA writing?
