Jamie (He/They) is a bassist and songwriter who is passionate about harnessing the power of music to enact changes in the social climate of the world. Currently enrolled in the Applied Music Program of College of the North Atlantic, they have had the opportunity to plan and perform in multiple shows, where they have also taken on roles such as stage manager and musical director. They have been involved in music and performance for almost 20 years; they studied piano for over 10 years as a child and teen, and were involved in various choirs for over 10 years, now with electric guitar and bass being their more recent instruments. Stemming from a childhood love of collecting and self-guided learning of instruments such as harmonica, accordion, and violin, they have recently been investigating how to incorporate more unique and uncommon instruments into their music. Their influences include mainly pop-punk music, as well as metal, hardcore, and various subgenres of rock, giving their music a heavier edge through fast and punchy basslines. They have recently formed a politically motivated band with their classmates, sarcastically called ANOTHER BOY BAND, and is working on developing a solo album they hope to release in the next few years. They want to use unexpected but inspiring music to encourage listeners to change the way they think about the world.

“When I picture the world I want to live in, where everyone has love and respect for each other and themselves and the world around them, those individuals who hold hate in their hearts have not disappeared, nor are they locked up, or punished. They have learned, and they stand with us, not against us, and we are all one body of people. But it is so hard to help those who hate us, even though they are often in great need of help themselves, and I believe that music can be our greatest tool to help unite everyone under mutual love and respect. How many people have listened to David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, or Elton John and thought later in life—'oh, they’re queer? They’re kinda cool though…’ And that’s what I want to be as an artist—somebody who makes people change their mind”.

ANOTHER BOY BAND is a group of 3 genderqueer musicians from Newfoundland and Labrador. We strive to break down social barriers and fight for equity and human rights through our music. As young people in a world where the future is getting scarier every day, we want to do whatever we can to fight for what we think is right, and our music is all about promoting those values; deconstructing capitalism, creating opportunities for working class citizens, promoting equal rights for women, black people, immigrants, and LGBTQIA2S+ people, preserving reproductive rights, fighting against climate change, and protecting artists from AI. Another Boy Band was inspired to come together in protest of the male-dominated punk scene and some of the concerning music we heard come out of it. To us, music is all about empowering people, and when we hear music created to put people down, we feel compelled to push back and create something even stronger that uplifts those who have been pushed down and gives voices to those who have been silenced. Our music comes from a wide range of influences, such as folk, punk, rock, metal, alternative, indie, and hardcore to create a unique and distinctive sound, and currently consists of an all-queer lineup of vocals by Addison Brooklyn, piano by Sara Benoit and bass by Jamie Reid. We like to use electronic samples to add percussion and other instruments to our songs, but we would love to find other queer musicians to work with us who share our values! Our lyrics are about promoting these ideas in various forms, and we want our music to capture people’s emotions and help make them care about these issues just as much as we do. We are a queer band for queer audiences, but we also want to reach straight and cisgender audiences, and anyone in positions of power and privilege, because we want to help everyone understand why they should and how they can support the queer community and other marginalized groups. We want to fight for the world we believe in by getting everyone on our side, and making music is our way to make this happen.
