The Catholic Church has been hiding their nefarious scandals for hundreds of years. The first recorded incident of this was in 1629, in a Catholic Church in Rome instituted by a Spanish priest by the name of Joseph Calasanz. Soon after a priest named Stefano Cherubini was accused of having "Impure associations within it's schoolboys" wanted to hide this horrific act and was successful enough at this to be promoted higher in its ranks rather than reprimanded which would lead to how the Church dealt with such actions for centuries to come.

To cover up sexual abuse within many religions and organizations, there are a couple of way to go about sweeping these dark and disturbing actions under the rug; a common way to silence the victims of sexual assault and their families is a bride. This method doesn't always work and if it does it may only work for so long before they decide to speak out so many times a bride is often paired with a threat. A threat will only work if the attacker is presented as a figure of authority which a religious leader often is. To a young child a priest is someone who their parents tell them they can trust because he can lead them to heaven and this is someone their own parents listen to and look up to to guide them to heaven so a threat about not being able to go to heaven should they tell is part of what keeps these child victims quite for many years. Another aspect that adds to this is the peer pressure of becoming an outcast. Not so long ago when a victim came out about the horrible actions done against them they were mocked and outcasted thrown in some horrible name callings and labels.
