Most uinversities we know don't have mentoring programs. People need to developing mentoring relationships outside the academia environment.
2. There needs to be more attention to multiculturalism and to students that come from a non-traditional background. It is important to have good personal relationships with mentors. Many professors are not approachable and that is a barrier for developing potential.
3. Mentors need to be more available. It would be good to have indigenous peoples in the teams. We also could have mentoring programs with experts from different fields.
4. Interactions/activities outside the academic environment to foster relationships. Regular exchange of ideas.
