With the incredible support of my parents, family, teachers, and friends, I was able to achieve straight A's in my SPM. I was extremely shocked and grateful, even until now, because I know I was just an average student—not particularly smart. What is Usrah?

Usrah is group discussion that focuses on developing good values and moral practices. It is a way for Muslims to engage in Tarbiyah, continues process of spritual,mental development. it helps us to improve ourselves as a Muslims, as we gain more knowledge on how to be the best version of Muslim. Usrah also helps strengthen our bonds among Muslims, besides increasing our knowledge.

Ettique or Knowledge- which is more important?

ETTIQUE (adab) is derived from the Arabic language, meaning behavior and actions that are courties, polite and moral. its reflect our character, strengthen relationship, and create a respectful and harmonious society.

KNOWLEGE is the arrival of meaning within a person, leading them to change based on the knowledge they have acquired. We need to have knowledge so that we can gain the respect and trust of others.

Knowledgeable manners

1. Honoring and respecting teachers: show respect to them so that the knowledge taught to us is blessed.

2. Being diligent and committed: We must be diligent in seeking knowledge as students.

3.Sincerely intend to learn: remember that our purpose in seeking knowledge is to fulfill our amanah as a muslim, and not merely to achieve worldly matters.

Al-Quran as the primary sources?

Allah says in the Quran:

"Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest." (Surah Ar-Ra'd 13:28)

The Quran is a miracle given to the Prophet Muhammad and serves as a guide for humanity. Without the Quran, our lives will not be complete.

The 5 Pillars of Islam

The five pillars of Islam are the core beliefs and practices of Islam that all Muslims are obligated to fulfil throughout their lifetime.

DEFINITION OF HADITH JIBRIL

Hadith Jibril explains the Pillars of Islam through Angel Jibril's question to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ answered that Islam consists of: testifying that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger, establishing prayer, giving zakat, fasting in Ramadan, and performing Hajj if able. This hadith is significant because it explain the three essential aspects of Islam: Islam (submission), Iman (faith), and Ihsan (spiritual excellence).

5 PILLARS OF ISLAM

1)Shahadah: Reciting the two kalimah syahadah

2)Salah (prayer): Performing the five daily prayers

3)Sawm: Fasting in the month of Ramadan

4)Zakat: giving zakat to those in need

5)Hajj: Performing Hajj for those who are able, at least once in a lifetime.

IMPORTANCE OF ISLAMIC PILLARS

• Strengthening our relationship with Allah SWT: when we perform Salah we are directly communicating with Allah, thus its strengthens the relationship of the servant to the His Creator

• Strengthening our relationship with others: Islamic acts of worship often involve communal participation, such as congregational prayer (solat berjemaah) and helping those in need. This strengthens the bond between fellow Muslims and fosters unity.

• It purifies the heart and keeps one away from major sins: By performing acts of worship, a person will be protected from major sins and even minor sins, as they are close to Allah.

• It makes us true servants of Allah: Because we are fulfilling the obligations that have been prescribed upon us.

ETTIQUE OF SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

• Referring to those who are more knowledgeable and expert.

• Don't be shy to ask.

• Don't be shy to admit and say, "I don't know."

Sahih Muslim (Hadith 8) - Hadith JibrilWhen Jibril (AS) asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about faith (Iman), he replied:"It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and to believe in Qadr (divine decree), both good and bad."

THE 6 PILLARS OF IMAN

1. belief in the Oneness of Allah SWT

6. belief in the Qadhaa' & Qadr (Doom & Divine Decree)

(1) BELIEF IN ALLAH

every Muslim should believe that there is only one God worthy of worship, with no partner, or son. This notion is called "Tawhid" in Sharia, it means believing the oneness of Allah in :

• His Lordship (Rububiyyah)

• Worship (Uluhiyyah)

• Names and Attributes (Asma' wa Sifat)

Thus, A person’s faith will remain strong because they believe in the existence of Allah as the One and Only God. They will not be led astray or deviate from the right path.

(2) BELIEF IN ANGELS

believing the Angels created by Allah SWT, even though we cannot see them. They are not God's children but His creations who worship and obey him completely.

This helps us Muslims reflect the greatness of Allah's power.

(3) BELIEF IN THE BOOKS OF ALLAH

As a Muslims, we must believe that Allah has sent down holy books as guidance of humanity. without His books, people would go astray and live in incomplete lives, as there are no divine guidance.

THE PILLARS OF IMAN

(4) BELIEF IN THE MESSENGERS

belief in Allah's messengers means to believe that Allah chose the finest amongst mankind to be. Messengers whom He sent to His creation with specific legislation, to worship and obey Allah, and to establish His religion and His Oneness. Rejecting them means rejecting Allah’s message, which leads to misguidance and going astray.

Surah Al-Ahzab (33:40)"Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. And Allah has full knowledge of all things."

Our duty towards the Messengers

• we must believe in all of Allah's messengers and their messages without favoring one over the other.

• obeying the messengers is part of obeying Allah

• The messengers were the best among humans in knowledge, deeds, honesty, and character.

• All messengers were human, male, and not angels.

• They did not have any divine powers or control over the universe.

• They were protected from any faults that could affect their faith and obedience to Allah

• The best of all creation was Prophet Muhammad SAW

(5) BELIEF IN THE JUDGEMENT DAY

believe that one day, the world will come to an end, just as people and other life forms do. When Allah decides, the angels Israfil will blow the trumpet (Sur). It is loud sound will cause all living beings to die, except those who Allah choose to keep alive. Our belief in this will create awareness in us as Muslims in terms of preparing for the Hereafter and striving to become servants of Allah who are blessed and pleased by Him.

(6) BELIEF IN THE DOOM & DIVINE DECREE

belief that everything that happens in this universe happens by the will and decree of Allah, from the time we are born until we die. It allows a person to always wholeheartedly accept Allah's plans. Thus, when something bad happens, they will not complain or be angry at Allah's decree

Hadith (Sahih Muslim, 2653)The Prophet (ﷺ) said:"Nothing happens to you except that Allah has already written it, even if it is a small injury like a prick from a thorn."

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE JUDGEMENT DAY

Surah Al-Hajj (22:7)"And verily, the Hour (Day of Judgment) is coming, there is no doubt about it, and certainly, Allah will resurrect those who are in the graves."

1. THE EMERGENCE OF DAJJAL

a deceiver with supernatural abilities who will mislead many. He will claim divinity and perform false miracles. Whoever follows him will be doomed to Hell forever. Makkah and Madinah will be protected from him.

2. THE RETURN OF PROPHET ISA A.S.

Prophet Isa will descend from the heavens to defeat Dajjal. He will restore justice and rule according to Islamic law. He will pray behind Imam Mahdi, affirming his leadership.

3. THE ARRIVAL OF IMAM MAHDI

a righteous leader from the lineage of Prophet Muhammad SAW. He will restore justice and unite the Ummah. His rule will last for seven years before the next major event.

4. THE RELEASE OF YAKJUJ MAKJUJ

   
   

a massive, destructive nation that will cause chaos. They will break through their barrier and spread corruption. Allah will destroy them with a divine plague after Prophet Isa prays for relief.

5. THE BEAST OF THE EARTH

a mysterious creature that will speak to people. It will mark believers and disbelievers, distinguishing them. A final warning before the last events unfold.

6. THE SMOKE

A thick smoke will cover the earth for 40 days. Believers will feel mild discomfort like a cold. Disbelievers will suffer severely, struggling to breathe.

7. THE RISING OF THE SUN FROM THE WEST

The sun will rise from the west, signalling that repentance no longer accepted. This marks a point of no return for humanity.

8. THE THREE LANDSLIDES

Three massive earthquakes will cause landslides in: the East, the West, the Arabian Peninsula

9. A GREAT FIRE

A massive fire will emerge, driving people to their final gathering place. This will be one of the last events before Qiyamah itself.

10. THE FINAL WIND (THE LAST SIGN BEFORE QIYAMAH)

A gentle wind from Yemen will take the souls of all believers. Only the worst people will remain on earth. After this, Qiyamah will take place

Summary:

As Muslims, we must make extensive preparations before the appearance of the major signs of the end of the world. such as, increase our acts of worship and improve those that are not yet perfected. Strengthen our faith and solidify our beliefs because when these major signs appear we do not know what our state will be at that time, are our faith be strong at that time, or will it weaken?.

Sahih Al-Bukhari (Hadith 6018) – The Best Among You The Prophet (ﷺ) said:"The best among you are those who have the best manners."

ADAB IN ISLAM

it derives from the root word: ادب - to refine, to educate, to discipline. it donates a habit, an etiquette

Adab refers to good manners, morals, and appropriate actions derived from the teachings and instructions of Islam. It reflect true faith and bring blessings in both this world and the Hereafter.

ADAB VS AKHLAQ

akhlaq (morality) and adab (manners) are two frequently used terms to denote ethics.

Akhlaq is moral philosophy, while adab is its actual practices.

Adab "addresses what is the proper, or improper, behaviour of man, while the first (akhlaq) addresses why such actions are proper or otherwise (Hashi, 2011, p. 122)''.

• ADAB WITH PARENTS

Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) highlights the respectful way of interacted with his father despite their religious differences.

Ibrahim (A.S) did not insult or confront his father but invited him to consider the truth with love and wisdom. His father rejected his advice, threatened him, and told him to leave. Ibrahim (A.S) responded peacefully, prayed for his father, and eventually distanced himself while remaining respectful. As a result, Allah rewarded him a righteous family, including his sons Ishaq (Isaac) and Yaqub (Jacob), who become prophets.

Based on the story of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S), we learn to always be mindful of our actions, words, and behavior when interacting with our parents. whether they are kind or otherwise. This is because they are the ones who raised and cared for us with love, without expecting anything in return. Their care is pure and full of affection. Additionally, the pleasure of Allah comes from the pleasure of our parents. When we honor and respect them, we earn Allah’s blessings and mercy

• ADAB WITH FRIENDS

1. Sharing with each other

2. Not being arrogant

3. Avoiding gossip

4. Not whispering when in a group of three

5. Having a cheerful face

6. Not mocking others

7. Forgiving one another

8. Not pointing sharp objects at others

9. A prayer for good character

In summary, these manners help prevent misunderstandings and hurt feelings among friends, strengthening our relationships. We must uphold good manners with our friends, as it is encouraged in Islam. Treating them with kindness and respect fosters harmony and mutual understanding.

• THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING ADAB

Imam Ibnul Qayyim RH explained that the essence of manners in Islam is practicing good morals. That is why manners are a reflection of the perfection that exists in a person's habits from words to actions. Islam places great emphasis on adab, whether in speech, behavior, dealing with others, or worship.

سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ 

"We will gradually lead them (to destruction) from where they do not know." Surah Al-Qalam (44)

WHAT IS ISTIDRAJ?

Istidraj is when Allah grants continuous worldly success to a person despite their persistent sins and lack of faith. Derived from "da-ra-ja" (درج), meaning to ascend, it signifies a gradual test where indulgence leads to a false sense of security, distancing one from righteousness. Over time, this results in spiritual downfall. Istidraj serves as a reminder that material gains are not always a sign of divine favor but can be a test of faith, emphasizing the need for humility and vigilance.

EXAMPLE OF ISTIDRAJ

• They don’t perform prayers, yet their exam results are always good.

• They don’t worship, yet their salary keeps multiplying.

• They don’t cover their aurat, yet their business keeps growing.

• They don’t fast, yet they own two or three houses.

• They don’t pay zakat, yet they keep getting promoted.

• They’re rude to their parents, yet they have billions in wealth.

IMPLICATION

• Does not feel satisfied with the blessings given, even if they are abundant.

• A person will continue committing sins.

• Loses the mercy of Allah (SWT).

• Always feels anxious and uneasy.

summary:

We must always reflect on ourselves, as humans are never free from mistakes. We should consider whether the blessings we receive are a sign from Allah to remind us of our excesses or truly a gift of His favor. Therefore, we must always be careful in everything we do to avoid incurring Allah’s displeasure.

What made it even more special was that among my students, there were some with psychological disorders, though their conditions had to be kept confidential. My interest in psychology, which had started in school, grew even stronger while I was working there.

I am truly grateful that Allah gave me the opportunity to do something I am passionate about and to work in a job that required me to interact with children—because I truly love kids.

This usrah has helped me become a better version of myself. Through usrah, I have been able to increase my knowledge of religion and receive valuable life advice. I also get to reflect on myself through the sharing sessions with my fellow usrah members. As humans, we sometimes make assumptions about others, thinking they are a certain way, only to realize that their religious knowledge is actually better than ours. That is the most valuable lesson I have gained from usrah.

Moreover, usrah helps me fulfill the responsibility that Allah has given to every Muslim—the obligation to seek knowledge. Even though the topics discussed in usrah are familiar to me, I have come to understand that we must continue learning in greater depth.

SUGGESTION

However, I hope for improvements in usrah, particularly by increasing activities to make it more effective. Instead of just listening, there should be engaging activities to strengthen the bond among members. Additionally, incorporating tadarus Al-Quran in usrah would help improve the quality of each member’s recitation. Since Quranic recitation programs in CFS are still limited, usrah can serve as a platform to help more students enhance their recitation.

Surah Al-Baqarah
(2:269) "He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding"

meaning of Hikmah :

• wisdom

• hikmah is a useful knowledge from Allah, bestowed upon us to be use it in our lives. it helps us prevent from doing things that are wasteful or unbeneficial. it is how we use our 'aql (intellect) to follow Allah's command, in order to attain His blessings

meaning of Ibadah:

every action done with the intention for the sake of Allah and to seek His pleasure

How can we get hikmah from ibadah?

1. by having intention for the sake of Allah

2. by following the Quran and Sunnah

3. through ikhlas (sincerity)

Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:56) "And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me"

1) Hikmah off Performing Ibadah

i. Ibadah trains discipline

• to develop self-control

• to manage our desires

• to control our anger

• to organize our time

ii. Ibadah purifies our inner self

2) Sources of Hikmah

• The Qur’an

• ⁠Hadith of Prophet Muhammad

• ⁠Stories and teachings of the scholars (ulamak)

The Prophet once said in his hadith: "When you perform prayer, do not turn away, for indeed Allah sets His Face towards the face of His servant in his prayer as long as he does not turn away."

Definition of Khusyuk:

our heart directed solely to Allah SWT during prayer.

engaging the soul and heart with feelings of fear, love towards Allah.

Ways to Attain Khusyuk in Solat

1. Understand the meaning of the recitations in Solat

2. Pray at the beginning of the prescribed time

3. Avoid external distractions (phones, noise)

4. Always remember that Allah is watching us while we pray

5. ⁠Make du’a, asking Allah for khusyuk

what can we get through solat?

1. Ta'ah : submission, loyalty, submitting oneself to Allah

Solat train ourselves to obey Allah's commands. such as praying on time and reciting the Quran with correct tajwid.

2. Jihad : struggle in the path of Allah

The struggle to focus in solat by refraining ourselves from thinking worldly matters or getting sleepy and restrain lust. As a result, we can exercise our mental faculties and be more disciplined.

3. Muhasabah : reflection

Solat can help us to reflect on ourselves through identifying our weaknesses in performing ibadah, and try to improve the weaknesses to do the perfect ibadah

4. Iffah : modesty

Solat helps us refrain from doing evil, and we will be ashamed to do so, as we know Allah watches every action of humans.

Surah Al-Ankabut (29:45) "Recite and follow (O Muhammad) what has been revealed to you of the Quran, and establish prayer; indeed, prayer prevents from shameful and wrongdoing; and indeed, the remembrance of Allah is greater (in its benefits and effects); and (remember) Allah is aware of what you do"

5. Tawaddu' : humility, humbleness

As in salat, we need to prostrate. The position of prostration is the lowest position, and it demonstrates the most noble acts as a servant of Allah, and it is the time when we are closest to Allah. As a result, it will train us to be humble. Thus, in our relationship with other humans, we will be humble and open to accepting admonition from others.

The Virtues Found in Fasting:

1️⃣ Sabr (Patience)

📌 Fasting trains patience in three main forms:

a) Patience in obedience:

Staying consistent in ibadah:

• Reading the Qur’an frequently

• Performing more sunnah prayers

b) Patience in avoiding prohibitions:

• Gossiping

• Anger

• Speaking about pointless matters

c) Patience with takdir:

Accepting trials takdir we cannot change:

• We should not complain / blame fate

2️⃣ Takrim (Respect)

📌 Fasting cultivates respect in various aspects:

a) Respecting others by controlling speech and actions

b) Respecting time, discipline, and the commands of Allah

3️⃣ Rahmah (Compassion/ Friendliness)

a) Allah’s mercy towards His servants

b) Mercy among humans:

• Giving charity

• Speaking gently and kindly

c) Mercy within the family:

• suhoor with family

• breaking fast together as a family

a) Tazkiyyah (Purification of wealth & souls through Zakah)

-cleanse the heart from greed and love for worldly things.

-train us to be generous, and to accept what Allah has decreed

b) Tawakkul (Reliance on Allah )

-When we give zakat/sadaqah, we let go of our wealth, believing that Allah will replace it with greater goodness.

Hadith:

“Wealth does not decrease because of sadaqah.”

c) Ukhuwwah (Brotherhood)

-When we help others, we build a sense of empathy, and love within the community.

-Those who are helped will feel valued and not left out.

THE RELATION BETWEEN UKHUWWAH & SADAQAH

1. Even a small sadaqah is counted by Allah

-It may seem small to us, but it is great in the sight of Allah.

2. Through that small act of kindness, ukhuwwah can be formed

-When we constantly do small acts of good for those around us, that’s what builds heartfelt connections

One small act of kindness ➡ opens someone’s heart ➡ that person also does good in return ➡ eventually, a loving community is formed

Hajj

• The fifth pillar of Islam

• A visit to the Baitullah al-Haram in Makkah during the designated months of Hajj to perform specific acts of worship according to its conditions

• It is obligatory once in a lifetime for those who are capable.

وَأَتِمُّوا۟ ٱلْحَجَّ وَٱلْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ “And complete the Hajj and ‘Umrah for Allah.”(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:196)

‘Umrah

• A visit to the Baitullah al-Haram in Makkah at any time of the year to perform specific acts of worship according to its conditions

Virtues Found in Hajj and ‘Umrah

1) Al-Tadhiyyah (Sacrifice)

• Sacrificing wealth, time, and energy

• In full submission to Allah’s command

• A proof of our love for Allah

2) Taqwa (God-Consciousness)

• The constant awareness that Allah is always watching us.

• We become extremely cautious, fearing to spoil our Hajj

My wish is that with the knowledge gained from usrah, I can become a better person, especially a better servant of Allah. This is important because we, as humans, are weak and need guidance to improve ourselves. Alhamdulillah, I received that guidance through usrah. I hope I can remain istiqamah in striving to be the best in the sight of Allah.

My suggestion to improve usrah is that I hope more engaging or interesting activities can be incorporated during the sessions.
