Bruno was the son of the commandant of a concentration camp whereas Schumel (a jew) was an inmate of the  camp. While out exploring one afternoon, Bruno discovered "the boy at the other side of the fence".  They quickly became friends and Bruno would often smuggle food for Schumel.  
I chose this book to share with all of you as this is a holocaust novel written from the perspective of a nine-year-old german boy, which is quite rare as most holocaust novels for children are written from the Jewish point of view.  Besides  the usual fantasy, thriller or sci-fi that you girls enjoy,  delving into historical fiction would widen your horizons. I'm sure you've heard about WW2, the holocaust, concentration camps and Nazi Germans. However, how much do you actually know about these? The world would be a better place if we learn to draw lessons from the past and there is no better way to do it than to read about it. I really like this book as it is so happy in the start and ther is a twist  in the end that was extremely unexpected, when I read the ending I nearly cried it's a very sad but happy story.
I would really recommend this book to those who enjoy reading about fantasy as when Jess and Leslie were in Terabethia they created many mystical creatures like goblins tree monsters etc.i really felt like I was in the different scenes,

Although people gossiped behind his back and talked bad about him, he did not retaliate. I will recommend this book to everyone as it teaches you to believe in yourself.

I enjoy reading this book as it is very action packed and it definitely makes you want to keep reading to see what happens in the end.

If you are interested in this book, I suggest you could read Little Women first before reading this book.

I recommend this book as it has many captivating chapters. My favourite chapter is culture connection because it has 7 bite-size facts like strawberries contain more vitamin C than oranges and chewing gum burns about 11 calories an hour , it also contains celebrations in 2018 and money facts around the world. In the culture connection chapter, I learnt more about world religions and also learnt that pope francis was the first pope to pose for a selfie and has more than 22 million twitter followers. At the end of every chapter, there is a quiz of 5 questions. In almanac, there are other articles like awesome insect awards, naughty pets, 18 cutest animals of 2018, 3D printing, natural disasters and dwarf planets. My favourite facts are 1) a designer created shoes that you can print out at home overnight, 2) palm trees grew at north pole about 55 millions years ago, 3) peanut is not a nut, 4) peaches and almonds are related, 5) my favourite facts about air force one are , it costs about $180,000  an hour to fly air force one and president George H.W.Bush banned broccoli from his flights on air force one. Best of all, there is a chapter full of tongue twisters, lame jokes and other games. Almanac keeps me updated yearly on world facts.
