Also by using one word answers when praising can also be harmful such as the word "good", that could leave some doubt in the child's mind that why is my work not great or perfect. It is better to use full phrases or sentences and using specific areas where they were correct. The book suggests 6 ways of doing this. I will discuss the 6 ways more in detail during our discussion, but one way they suggest to encourage autonomy is by encouraging children to use sources outside the home. For example, if a child is overweight and needs guidance on a healthier lifestyle the school nurse could discuss this with them instead of a parent. They also suggest not taking away hope from your child. which goes into my favorite quote from this chapter "By trying to protect children from disappointment, we protect them from hoping, striving, dreaming, and sometimes achieving their dreams." Such as the story of the stubborn child in the beginning of the chapter. By eliminating roles or labels we allow children to discover who they are without the pressure of being something that other people want them or label them to be. 

One way we could apply this in school is to refrain from labeling or giving roles to our students whether it is in front of them or with other teachers. There is 6 key points to help the child succeed. My favorite is to let the children make choices.
