1) The title at first made me think that it was going to be like a metal music video or something rock related. I figured it would be something really dramatic or heavy.

2) A lot of people think that when they get tattoos specifically like a lot of the people in this video have that it's a symbol of disrespect for their bodies and person. A lot of the scenes in the video are from the band's concert too and a lot of times when younger people go to concerts everyone thinks it's just a bunch of getting into trouble and drinking.

3) I don't think any negative prejudices are showed. I think that the video showed all these people of all different walks of life and just made it a point that music inspired them and was part of thier lives.

4) While I don't feel that it is profoundly announced or shower you kind of get this feel from the video that everyone who isn't into music isn't living life to the fullest. Maybe that just my take on it but I watched the video twice and that's the only slightly ethnocentric thing that I saw.

5) I believe that in this video tattoos symbolize emotions, journeys, experiences, hope, and on many of these people an expression of who they are or what's important to them.

6) i think that everyone came together and said hey this person appreciate music like me not caring what type of music it was the music realm could be prejudice free yes. Music is an art, you shouldn't judge anyone by the music that they listen to.

1.) Watch this video: 30 Seconds To Mars -- "DO OR DIE"
Taking the title into account what was your perception about BEFORE you watched it?

My perception was that there was going to be a message of some sorts that was shown throughout the video. This is because I've listened to this band before and I'm familiar with their type of music. I haven't heard this particular song though before and my initial thoughts were it was probably going to be about acting in life and to either get up and do something or just die.

2.) What are some stereotypes or attributions that cover up individual differences and ascribe certain characteristics to the different groups of people in this video?

Some of the stereotypes/attributions shown in this video are that they are the "rocker" type. This stereotype is usually seen negatively and that those people are violent, drug users, low-lifes, and possible criminal record. But they are all just musicians and they dress based on their own cultural identity and are only noticed because of the way they look and people's negative stereotypes of them.

3.) What prejudices are displayed in this video's message? Are they negative / or positive? Give "one" specific example...explain

One prejudice is that just because those people look different just because they are covered in tattoos or their hair isn't a natural hair color. This would be a negative example because they are already assumed to be violent or criminals because you can see their tattoos.

4.) Identify in the video an example of "ethnocentrism" or that one's group is at the center of the world or exhibits the best qualities.

I noticed an example of ethnocentrism when the one guy with long black hair was talking about the band and their fans. He went on to say that this band's fan base is the best.

5.) What are some messages do you believe the "tattoos" convey in this video?

Tattoos conveyed in this video show the musicians' individuality and their choice of expressing it.

6.) Can the perception of music be a realm that could possibly be prejudice free? Explain...

Music is a realm that should be free of prejudice in today's world. Music is supposed to be used as an escape and something that we all can listen to and enjoy. But a lot of people still judge/stereotype people in different music genres based on how they look.

Watch this video: 30 Seconds To Mars -- "DO OR DIE"
Taking the title into account what was your perception about BEFORE you watched it?
I have heard the Afrojack electric dance music verison of do or die so I already knew the song and figured that it would be just the normal rockish verison of it that I havent ever heard before.

2.) What are some stereotypes or attributions that cover up individual differences and ascribe certain characteristics to the different groups of people in this video?

Whenever I saw people with tattoos or with different hair color from my own personal experience I expected them to be harsh and really into weird things but then when they all began to talk and were so emotional about what music means to them it really brought everyone together.

3.) What prejudices are displayed in this video's message? Are they negative / or positive? Give "one" specific example...explain

There was not much prejudice in the video but the one man with the tattoos all over his body and the girl with a different unnatural hair color I thought showed what their fans looked like, different but when you saw them performing at the concert you saw people of all different types.

4.) What are some messages do you believe the "tattoos" convey in this video?
I believe the tattoos just show diversity and that regardless of the tattoos the music is what brings everyone together.

6.) Can the perception of music be a realm that could possibly be prejudice free?
I believe listening to music you have the right to listen to anything you want and its a way to escape reality and socializing, but I do not think it is prejudice free. From my own experience of loving edm, people judge me all the time for all the festivals and shows I go to because of the sterotype of the enviorment there but it doesnt stop me from listening.

1) I have never heard of this group and i expected that type of music but I expected the lyrics to be more on the dark side.

2) I would say punk rock they probably thrash hotel rooms. They may not be educated do to them being a band and having long hair. I think people would just view them as your typical rock stars. Their attributions are vastly different or at least in the video it seems as they are aware that there is dark things people go through and they use their music as a guide i feel.

3) It's all about someones perception of the music when it comes to prejudices, i Mean i is so easy to stand out and for others to be prejudice towards you. people could simply be prejudice to this group of guys solely based on their occupation, hairstyle, and even lifestyle.

4) It is shown strongest through people with the logo of the band tattooed onto their skin which is a daily statement to the world that this is the best band. and by inking into their skin I feel that is the strongest example of ethnocentrism.

5) It shows that this band means so much, that they have helped them in a way that they want to show appreciation for what they perceive as art.

6) No, you may be prejudice free towards people who enjoy the same type of music as you do. I believe there would be prejudice do to conflict in taste in music between two genres.

Watch this video: 30 Seconds To Mars -- "DO OR DIE"
Taking the title into account what was your perception about BEFORE you watched it?
- My perception was that this video was going to be about some daredevils doing crazy stunts or whatever.

2.) What are some stereotypes or attributions that cover up individual differences and ascribe certain characteristics to the different groups of people in this video?
- A stereotype that I always knew was the typical rocker type person that loves heavy metal and loves to trash things and do crazy illegal drugs.

3.) What prejudices are displayed in this video's message? Are they negative / or positive? Give "one" specific example...explain
Based off the video, I personally think that there isn't any prejudices, but then again that's based off an individual evaluation. Overall I think it was pretty positive the message that going on in the video and how you get understand other peoples passion for a certain kind of music. The interviews were a great example on how they personally feel about the lifestyle.

4.) Identify in the video an example of "ethnocentrism" or that one's group is at the center of the world or exhibits the best qualities.
I mean in the video, it is pretty centered on one type of musical lifestyle. I think the whole video and the people and the environment involved is an example within itself.

5.) What are some messages do you believe the "tattoos" convey in this video?
The tattoos in this video to me convey a basic rock star lifestyle and how they choose to express themselves.

6.) Can the perception of music be a realm that could possibly be prejudice free? Explain...
I think so because people are obligated to have a love for any type of music they're exposed to and I don't think the music that one listens too should define their lifestyle in some cases. However specifically in the video some interviewees were extremely passsionate about the music that it goes with their lifestyle. I just think it depends on the individual.

What are some stereotypes or attributions that cover up individual differences and ascribe certain characteristics to the different groups of people in this video?

These people are associated with the typical rocker/emo stereotype. They are seen as very crazy and people expect them to be weird or into strange things. Also people expect them to be very emotional because a lot of times their music talks about emotions. And when you think of the rocker group you think of people slamming guitars on stage and just going crazy.

3.) What prejudices are displayed in this video's message? Are they negative / or positive? What are some stereotypes or attributions that cover up individual differences and ascribe certain characteristics to the different groups of people in this video?

The idea that to have an interest in music that you have to have tattoos or wild hair and big gages in your ears.

1.) Watch this video: 30 Seconds To Mars -- "DO OR DIE"
Taking the title into account what was your perception about BEFORE you watched it?
My perception is that something that has to be done. Or your world will completely change.

2.) What are some stereotypes or attributions that cover up individual differences and ascribe certain characteristics to the different groups of people in this video?
Some stereotypes is the rock/punk look. A lot of people will judge that kind of music, because they think it's to aggressive. Or that the people are crazy. At concerts you see crowd surfing and people going crazy. Though they are just having fun. They are letting lose. It's similar to judging the store Hot Topic. People think its a goth or emo store, because how dark it is. When it's a store for anyone who loves music.

3.) What prejudices are displayed in this video's message? Are they negative / or positive? Give "one" specific example...explain
In this video, everyone came together. I saw more positive and no negative. A lot of people had suffered pain, especially from losing someone from cancer. Music can bring people together and show they are not alone. That is what the band wanted to do.

4.) Identify in the video an example of "ethnocentrism" or that one's group is at the center of the world or exhibits the best qualities.
The band is very connected with their fans. They want their fans to know they can relate and write songs, so their fans feel comfort. The lead singer has a symbol, which some of the fans have as well. It shows the loyalty they have.

5.) What are some messages do you believe the "tattoos" convey in this video?
Tattoos tell a story. They show someone's life story and their personality. Tattoos doesn't make someone different. They should be respected.

6.) Can the perception of music be a realm that could possibly be prejudice free? Explain..
Music is art. Music brings people together. Through good times and bad times. It's a way people can relax and let out their feelings. All music should be respected, no matter who the artist is. At the end of the day. Every song tells a story.

What are some stereotypes or attributions that cover up individual differences and ascribe certain characteristics to the different groups of people in this video?

The rocker look would be a big stereotype. There was one girl with orange hair and had one of the more depressing stories. Her mom had cancer and she chose to express herself through music just like every other normal person out there. She had to bright hair and tattoos yet had the same problems everyday people have.

3.) What prejudices are displayed in this video's message? Are they negative / or positive? Give "one" specific example...explain

I associate prejudices with negatives so I really didn’t see anything of the sort. I thought the video was extremely positive. All of the people were associating negative things in their life to positive music to help cope and overcome.

4.) Identify in the video an example of "ethnocentrism" or that one's group is at the center of the world or exhibits the best qualities.

Obviously any band would claim that they have the best fans around. They show how loyal those people are with how they use their style of music to bring joy and happiness to those that are struggling.

5.) What are some messages do you believe the "tattoos" convey in this video?

Tattoos are basically the same thing as music. Tattoos are permanent things applied to your body that represent important aspects of your life that you want others to know and share with you.

6.) Can the perception of music be a realm that could possibly be prejudice free? Explain...

I think that there will always be some sort of prejudice within the realm of music simply because there are too many types of it and people’s taste for certain types will never change. There will always be someone who doesn’t like “Screamo” and will always refer to the same stereotypes when they hear or see it.

Perception and Prejudice

1.) Watch this video: 30 Seconds To Mars -- "DO OR DIE"
Taking the title into account what was your perception about BEFORE you watched it?

Before watching the short clip I thought the title of the clip was a title of a movie and we were about to watch a good trailer. I perceive the clip has to do with action as well; trying to accomplish something nearly impossible.

2.) What are some stereotypes or attributions that cover up individual differences and ascribe certain characteristics to the different groups of people in this video?

Everyone in the music video were different from all different nationalities and different accents. They all had one thing that brought them together with no conflicts or anything and that is music. Someone who does not listen to rock and see all these tatted up people attending a concert they might start judging them by their looks and not realize that the music concert they are attending is more peaceful and relaxing vs, yelling around smashing things; what im trying to say is dont judge a book by its cover.

3.) What prejudices are displayed in this video's message? Are they negative / or positive? Give "one" specific example...explain

The prejudice attached with rock stars is that they are all crazy and destructive but in reality thats false they have feelings and are peaceful and listen to alternative rock which is a lot more relaxing. The characters in interviews said they feel free fromt their problems and find it easy to get away when listening to thirty seconds to mars.

4.) Identify in the video an example of "ethnocentrism" or that one's group is at the center of the world or exhibits the best qualities.

The rock artist in my opiinion were the reason thousands of people should up at their concert, they are very good and have a strong fan base that follow and listen to their music. People from all over Europe and Asia listen to thirty seconds to mars and thats why i believe the rock artist identify and example of ethnocentrism. One of the fans got to meet the rock artist and just started to cry, mainly because she saw him as a legend or as their hero.

5.) What are some messages do you believe the "tattoos" convey in this video?

The video conveys that some people express their feelings or goals through tattooing it on their body and that not all tattoos are gang or rebellious affiliated, Tattoos are becoming a norm in the young population and we should not judge just because someone has some ink on their skin.

6.) Can the perception of music be a realm that could possibly be prejudice free? Explain...

I believe so and it in some cases it is already prejudice free, for example people might believe this group of artist just play to one type of people and one certain part of the world but thats not true the band travels all around the world from africa to asia and even the US and no matter where they go, they still have a lot of different people coming together to enjoy one thing and that is to listen to the music not to make other people feel bad and judge them.

Watch this video: 30 Seconds To Mars -- "DO OR DIE"
Taking the title into account what was your perception about BEFORE you watched it?

I had heard of 30 Seconds To Mars before but had never listened to any of their songs. I expected something based on the notion of living life to the fullest and not giving in. I also thought that the song would be very rock based and intense.

2.) What are some stereotypes or attributions that cover up individual differences and ascribe certain characteristics to the different groups of people in this video?

The group shown are generally associated with the rock music scene which is stereotyped as being rebellious, trouble-making, and not being good workers by those outside the group.

3.) What prejudices are displayed in this video's message? Are they negative / or positive? Give "one" specific example...explain

4.) Identify in the video an example of "ethnocentrism" or that one's group is at the center of the world or exhibits the best qualities.

The majority of the individuals shown in the video were white Europeans. They were shown in very blissful settings as very happy and emotionally connected to the group more so than the general populous or other specific communities are typically pictured.

5.) What are some messages do you believe the "tattoos" convey in this video?

The video conveyed a very positive message concerning tattoos. Tattoos were readily displayed throughout the film and were specifically presented if the piece was connected to the band as a show of connectedness to the group.

6.) Can the perception of music be a realm that could possibly be prejudice free? Explain...

The possibility exists, however, the music world is not a whole community. With different music genres comes different groups who, though they likely enjoy multiple genres, identify as a member of a specific community who is different from those who listen to different music. These smaller groups hold prejudices against one another that prevent the music community from being a cohesive unit.

What prejudices are displayed in this video's message? Are they negative / or positive? Give "one" specific example...explain

I looked at this video as positive, some people can go through really negative things and pull something positive from it, these people found power in music and they were able to overcome their challenges from it, hence the title, also living life to the fullest

4.) Can the perception of music be a realm that could possibly be prejudice free? Certain people are stereotyped based on the music that they listen to, whether it is rap, metal or country.
