How "Tough on Crime" relates to both

The tough on crime laws have made it so that even though violent crime rates have fallen 20 percent the amount of prisoners has risen 50 percent. A large portion of prisoners are people who committed non violent crimes. But there is a system in place that is corrupting our legal system and it is because since there is money to be made off of the legal system, the people who control these private prisons and the politicians who also benefit off of it exploit the legal system for a profit.

The reason why I chose to do my visual representation in this way because I tried to do it in a way that clearly showed how these topics are connected to each other. The topics that I connected were private prisons, "tough on crime" laws, and business interests. In my visual representation I chose to use arrows that connected each of the topics to one another. I also used text boxes to help explain as to how each of the topics were connected and I used arrows to point out which explanation connected to which topic. 
The topics that I connected to one another first were the topics private prisons and business interests. I chose to connect these topics because they are something that are very similar to each other. Their connection comes from the fact that private prisons and the the companies that own and build them have the ability to make a lot of money. The economy for private prisons and their companies is something that has thrived in recent history. I also connected the "tough on crime" laws to both the private prisons and business interest topics. The way that they are connected are that the tough on crime laws are something that helps incarcerate a large amount of people and especially people who have not committed violent crimes. Due to this our prisons become overpopulated, that is where the demand for more prisons and the businesses that create them grows. It is the corrupt system that exploits our legal system for profit that helps connect all three of the topics.
