In order to maintain order in china, the Martial law was declared to stop protests in the Tiananmen Square. This law gave the Chinese army the right to break up the protests violently. This made the people of china too afraid to fight for their rights.

Tiananmen Square Massacre

People in china felt the unorganization of their new communist governenment and felt trapped with no rights. They started protesting for basic human rights in Tiananmen square, the government didnt like this and sent soldiers to violently break up protests. Ended in a massacre of protestors.

Tiananmen Square Tank Man

Tanks were used to cause fear in hopes to break up protests at Tiananmen square. A protestor jumped on top of a tank that was trying to run him over. People caught it on video and he was nicknamed Tank Man. This represents the residents of chinas fight for their rights and that they are not willing to give up.
