We noticed that Tivoli contains many replicas of iconic cultural architecture. This looks similar to a temple but is slightly ambiguous to many types of East Asian architecture. It’s clear they wanted to incorporate many different cultures and did so by including the most stereotypical form.

This ride contains a trek through many of HC Andersons famous stories. As we learned from our class readings many of the lessons in his stories are relevant to today’s society and help shape the morals of young school children. He is a classic Danish figure and clearly his influence has spanned to this exciting looking ride in Tivoli.

The camel trail ride has clear influence from middle eastern culture. The buildings surrounding and rides also share a similar theme and architectural style. This shows Denmarks past appreciation for the way open markets were set up in this part of the world in they recreated it in the park.

Many of the food stands around Tivoli offer traditional Scandinavian foods you wouldn’t be able to find in other amusement parks around the world. Some Scandinavians enjoy licorice because the flavor compliments Scandinavian weather, while others just find it to be nostalgic.

Hans Christian Andersen is one of the most famous Danish writers. His work often gave meaning to those who do not fit in with society by creating a fairy tales with different environments. This is related to Tivoli because it is a fairy tale landscape within the city. Kids and adults alike can go here and to this ride to be a kid again.

This is another example of filling space and a ride with another culture. Contemporarily there are a lot of middle eastern immigrants in Copenhagen so it is definitely interesting to put that into conversation. It’s also an example of having a matching name to the regions environment.

This ride at the far side of the park is inspired by Islamic mosques with a dome and two towers very typical of that style. As we discussed in the intro, this is an artifact of one of the many cultures brought to Tivoli.

Above the Tivoli concert hall is the Danish flag! This shows that Tivoli is closely tied with Danish identity and that the Danish flag represents both national pride and celebration.

This building—the Japanese pagoda—lights up the lakeshore. According to Tivoli’s website, 2800 light bulbs make this super beautiful structure a beacon of the park. It was called the Chinese Tower at one point but its name was later changed… very interesting.
