I chose to take this photo because it made me realize how much society pushes the categories of "male" and "female". Seeing a gender-inclusive restroom was very different for me but I admired the inclusiveness. I connected it to the reading "The Medical Construction of Gender" by Kessler and topics of intersexuality because it acknowledges not everyone fits into the gender categories and people should not be forced to because of their sex.

I chose to use this picture because this is one part of how men in my culture view masculinity. As mentioned in the article, "The Social Org of Masculinity" by Connell, competitiveness can be seen in this game of horseshoe that they are playing and I think that it goes very much deeper than the game in terms of hierarchy and being seen as unvunerable.

For this picture, I chose to use a picture of my mother cooking because I thought of the reading, "The Social Construction of Gender" by Lorber. I chose this picture because as the article mentioned I learned of the gendered world from my parents. Cooking, cleaning, and other household tasks I was made to do while my brothers had other "manlier" tasks. I don't blame my parents though, I know it was how she was raised and her mother, and so on.

For this concept of heterosexuality, I chose to use a picture of my grandparents. I chose to take this picture of them because they were always my idea of heterosexuality. As mentioned in the article "The Invention of Heterosexuality" by Katz, my grandparents were stuck in the Heterosexual hegemony of the 60s. I saw how they associated women with childcare and the home and men with hard work and I thought this was the norm.

For my last photo, I chose to use this lovely picture of my mother. I chose this because Sojourner Truth's "Ain't I a Woman" really resonated with my idea of her. She has worked as hard as men around her and still was so disrespected as a black woman. But, still she preserves.
