I haven't met them yet, but my assumption is that some of them will feel that they have been placed too low, and being in my class is a punishment; others will feel that math is beyond them; others will go with the flow (maybe their only idea of where they belong is where they were placed, and they aren't here for any purpose other than to complete a requirement); etc. All of them are capable of being surprised.
