Book title and author- Sisters of the war by Rania Abouzeid.

Why did I choose this book?- Because I was interested in what they had to survive in Syria.

Who is the story focused on?- Kids in Syria, and what situations they have to go through. Including SAs, riots, kidnapping, ect. 

Riots, this book is filled with different riots and many people getting hurt. There are many people just trying to live in Syria and end up getting taken away from their families by scary men and women. The kids often get lost and or die when they get kidnapped. 

Wanting to escape, a lot of families in Syria want to escape Syria because it's a hell hole. The people there have no self respect for themselves nor other people. In Syria they all go crazy and do whatever they want with little to no punishment. 

Brain washing, the whole country is filled with families and individuals who are brainwashed. Most families don’t know what is going on outside of Syria and how most of the stuff got in gone in Syria is not normal and is horrible. 

What lesson/message did the author want the audience to take away after reading?- The author wanted others to be happy and grateful for what they have in life because others have it much worse. She wanted to show other people what kids in Syria have to go through as well in case someone can make a difference and get the word around. 

How do I know?- She states in the beginning of her book “for all the children, in Syria and elsewhere who are forced to grow up  too soon.” 

How do I think the author’s personal and/or professional life impacted how, and why they wrote this book?- Rania Abouzeid is also a woman of color, she knows what goes on in Syria because she has family members who have unfortunately lived there. She wrote this book to try and get the word out on how horrible Syria is.

How did the author use ethos to develop the theme and purpose of this story?- Rania used ethos by telling the readers how she had family who lived in Syria and told her what happened when they lived there, she used their experiences and turned it into a story. 

How did the author use pathos to develop the theme and purpose of this story?- Rania uses ethos by telling the readers what exactly the kids had to go through, she talks about their injuries, their fights, their hard times, their brave times, ect.

How did the author use logos to develop the theme and purpose of this story?- Rania used logos by telling the readers how the kids were brave and used logic when surviving, the decided to go into the riot and got out once they figured it had gotten too bad.

List one important quotation from the book that best summarizes the theme of the book.- “there were a lot of children at the protest.” (Page: 57.) This quote shows that there were many kids that were brought into the riots.

List a song that best connects to the themes of this book.- The Original Fire by Audioslave. This song connects to the book because it talks about how “the original fire” has died and gone. This symbolizes that the past was over and done and it was horrific. But it also states “ but the riot inside lives on” this shows that there is still fight in people and they are still protesting in Syria.
