Vilémov

Basic information

Vilémov is a small market town in the Vysočina region with about 1,000 inhabitants. It is located only five kilometers from Golčův Jeníkov and covers a total area of 24.57 km². The Hostačovka River flows through the town, giving the place a pleasant natural character. Although Vilémov is not large, it has a very rich history and remarkable landmarks.

History

The history of Vilémov goes back to the early 12th century. Around the year 1120, Benedictine monks from Břevnov founded a monastery here. In spite of its strong walls, the monastery was conquered several times during the centuries. There used to be two churches in the area – the Church of St. Peter and Paul for the monks, and the parish Church of Our Lady. Today, visitors can find the Church of St. Wenceslas, built by the Counts of Milessimo as a Baroque building. From the original monastery, the northern tower has been preserved, and inside the church there is a miraculous painting of Our Lady of Milessimo.

Landmark

However, the most important landmark of Vilémov is its Baroque château, built in the mid-18th century. It was founded by the Counts of Milessimo and most likely designed by the architect J. J. Wirch, who is also known for the Town Hall in Čáslav and the Archbishop’s Palace in Prague. The château is a valuable example of the Late Baroque period. It is surrounded by a beautiful French-style park, which was carefully designed. Part of the château grounds is also a game preserve, where wild animals are bred. Visitors can easily combine a tour of the château with a walk in the park. Together with the Church of St. Wenceslas, the château creates a peaceful and unique atmosphere that makes Vilémov worth visiting.

Sources

https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vil%C3%A9mov_(okres_Havl%C3%AD%C4%8Dk%C5%AFv_Brod)

Basic information

Žleby is a small town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It is famous for its romantic castle that looks like something from a fairy tale. The town lies on the Doubrava River, about 17 km southeast of Kutná Hora. Its name comes from the valley of the Doubrava River, which created a deep gorge – in Czech called žleb or žlab.

History

Žleby Castle was first mentioned in 1289 as a Gothic fortress. Later, it was rebuilt in Renaissance and Baroque style. In the 19th century, the Auersperg family changed it into a Neo-Gothic castle, which gave it the fairy-tale look it has today.

The castle is surrounded by a large park and a deer reserve with rare white stags. Inside, visitors can see decorated rooms, old weapons, and a 19th-century kitchen. The castle is also popular with film makers – many Czech fairy tales were filmed here, for example Tři veteráni or Jak se budí princezny.

Sources

https://www.strednicechy.cz/zazitek/zamek-zleby/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Žleby?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Basic Information

Třemošnice is a small town in the Pardubice Region, located at the foot of the Iron Mountains. The Zlatý Stream, a right-hand tributary of the Doubrava River, flows through the town and adds to its natural charm. It covers about 14 km² and has a population of around 3,300. Although it is small, the town is surrounded by beautiful countryside and offers an interesting mix of history and technical heritage.

History

Třemošnice was first mentioned in written records in the 16th century. The town grew thanks to local foundries and ironworks, which played an important role in its development. In the 18th century, a Baroque château was built here, but only

part of the original design was completed.

Landmarks

The most important landmark of the town is the Baroque château of Třemošnice, built in the 18th century by Jan Václav Caretto-Millesimo. According to the plans of the famous architect Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel, only one half of the château was finished, including the Chapel of St. Anne. Today, the château is privately owned.

Not far from the town is the romantic ruin of Lichnice Castle, located on a rocky hill above the Doubrava valley. The castle now offer beautiful views not only of Třemošnice but also of the surrounding countryside, and they are popular with hikers.

Technical Heritage

In 1882, a cableway was built to connect Třemošnice with the limestone quarries in Prachovice. It was five kilometres long and, at the time, unique in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In the same year, the local railway from Čáslav to Třemošnice became the first railway in the Czech lands to have a railway telephone.

Třemošnice is also a good starting point for trips into the Iron Mountains Protected Landscape Area. Visitors can see natural attractions such as Lovětínská Gorge, Hedvika’s Valley, and the ancient Žižka’s Oak tree. These places make Třemošnice interesting for people who enjoy history, technical heritage, and nature.

Sources

https://www.kudyznudy.cz/kam-pojedete/pardubicky-kraj/chrudimsko-hlinecko/tremosnice

https://www.tremosnice.cz/https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C5%99emo%C5%A1nice
