the queen of hearts vs evil mother

The queen of hearts in Alice and wonderland is a ruling tyrant in the space where Alice fell into and is quick to sentence her subjects to death. Similarly to the Evil Mother, they both punish people that make them angry. The Evil Mother punishes people by sewing their mouth, so they can no longer talk anymore. The Queen of Hearts punishes people by beheading them. Both of the antagonists are in control of their world and they don't like disruptions.

Similarly to Coraline, we both have friends that we like to hangout with. Even though we never really see Coraline's two friends in the film, we see how much Coraline misses them and how close they were. We also both love animals that we have as our pets. For example, Coraline has the Cat which eventually becomes her pet throughout the movie and I have a dog. Family is also a very important to me. Like Coraline, I would do whatever it takes to make them safe. Another personal connection I have with Coraline is her odd relationship with her parents. Through out the story Coraline doesn't seem to be as greatful for as loving towards her parents until the very end when she thought they were being kidnapped by the veil mother. This is similar to me as I don't show my gratitude for everything my parents does as much as i should but when it boil down to it I really do love and care for them.
- Huy Le

The Similarities and Difference Between Alice and Coraline

There are many similarities and differences between Alice and Coraline with their character. Alice's representation of her character shows the typical stereotype of a girl and a bit airheaded and Coraline shows a little bit of the modern era and a bit of a tomboy but she's smart. There are many types of girls now in our current timeline that not all girls don't act girly like back then and as women are getting more recognitions than just staying home all day. Both share similarities in that they are both bored with their lives and they want something fun to do and explore. The only one more difference is that Coraline has friends but Alice doesn't.

Personal Connections:
I would say that I like to go places often and it does get exciting when you get to explore new places outside of your home. As of now that I’m growing up and I could able to drive myself, I could finally to be able to go more new places that I haven’t been yet. In my childhood, my parent would to take me to many places outside of home and I love it. Like Coraline in the beginning of the movie, she's bored when her parents don't take her out because they’re both busy with work. She wants something exciting to go to and explore other than her home. My parents would get busy with work as well so I didn't understand the concept and I thought that they don't want any attention from me and I would just end up hanging out in the backyard and sit outside only as I am growing up.
- Eileen Huynh

Similarities and differences between the tunnels

In the movies Coraline and Alice in Wonderland, there are tunnels presented in the beginning of each movie. Both tunnels lead into a secret world that is very different from the real world in their own ways. In Coraline, the tunnel disappears and reappears depending on when Coraline is trying to enter. The tunnel looks like a multi colored slinky which you can enter through a secret door. In Alice in Wonderland, the tunnel is more like a rabbit hole that goes through the ground. At the end of the tunnel, there is a small door that you can only get through if you shrink in size.

Personal Connection:
Something that I have in common with Coraline is that she doesn't back down from a fight. At the end of the movie where she makes a deal with her other mother, she plays tricks on her so that she can get everything back to normal. She did everything she could to get her parents back even when it put her in danger. I am also the type of person who would sacrifice myself or something of mine for someone else. I see that we are both selfless when it comes to things that we care about.
-Haydi Valladolid

The Cat v. Cheshire Cat by Angelina LeDang

In both stories, the two cats play an important role to the main character. They both help lead the characters throughout their adventure. In addition, the cats are messengers who warn the characters if something bad will happen. They also guide the heroines into the other side and then back home. For example, the Cheshire Cat tells Alice to go to the Queen of Hearts for help and warns her that the Queen of Hearts has some evil ways. In Coraline, the Cat warns Coraline by disappearing and this indicates there is danger ahead. He also tells Coraline that she can get her parents back from the Evil Mother by challenging her because the mother likes games. The Cat also shows Coraline where her parents are and helps her find one of the eyes of the children. Both cats can speak and they have conversations with the girls. Furthermore, the cats have similar personalities, such as being mysterious. Both of them have the ability to vanish at times. Another similarity is that the two cats are best friends to the heroines. In contrast, Coraline has only one cat (the Cat) and Alice has two cats (her pet Dinah, and the Cheshire Cat). The Cheshire Cat is a tricky character that uses riddles and sarcasm when talking to Alice. He also smiles and that indicates mistrust. Also, the Cheshire Cat gets Alice in trouble with the Queen of Hearts many times. We don't get to see Dinah that much in the film, but when we do, Alice appreciates keeping her company when returning home. On the other hand, the Cat is a good character who helps Coraline with her mistakes and keeps her company. He is also able to bounce between reality and the other world, whereas the Cheshire Cat only lives in the other world.

Similarly to Coraline, we are witty and curious. For example, we have a sarcastic sense of humor and we like to explore things that are not normal to us. When Coraline saw the tunnel, she went inside and went to the other world. If I was her, I probably would also feel curious to go inside. However, at the same time, i would feel too scared to enter because I don't know what will happen. I also wouldn't have gone back to the other side if someone told me not to enter. For example, there were many instances that hinted at Coraline to not go back. The Cat and the magical stone from Miss Spink had warned Coraline not to return to the Evil Mother, but she ignored them and still returned. Another similarity is that Coraline and I both like animals, especially cats. Even though Coraline didn't like the cat at first, she eventually liked him throughout the story. We are also very determined when getting things done. For example, Coraline tried her best to find the eyes of the children. Likewise, when I study for exams, I study really hard the week before an exam by reviewing and memorizing every day. I am also similar to Coraline because when we are stressed, we both give up. For instance, Coraline gave up when she thought it was too late to find the eyes and she started to cry. However, I am different than Coraline because I wouldn't have been a quick thinker if I had to fight the Evil Mother. Coraline instantly thought of how to defeat the Evil Mother, but I would've been too scared to think of what to do. Another similarity is that we would do anything to protect our family. For example, when Coraline found out her parents were taken, she went back into the tunnel even though the Cat said not to. She also made a deal with the Evil Mother even though she agreed to let the Evil Mother give her buttons. If my family was in trouble, I would do whatever it takes to make sure they are okay and safe.
