This is when the funeral of Gatsby happens. The reason it is titled "James Gatz" instead of Jay Gatsby is because during this chapter, he is mostly called by his real name. The memories of him are also mostly of his old life and the upbringing he attempted to hide behind his vast newly attained wealth.

This is when everyone is at Gatsby's house. They are all there telling stories and sharing drinks. The vibe given off by the whole chapter is very tense but also relaxed.

Fight night- Tom vs Gatsby

Tom confronts gatsby about the affair, they argue for a while, then Tom reveals that Gatsby's money is made from illegal sources. Things get tense then there is a feeling of calm. However there is a undertone that they are heading towards a cliff.

The American dream is corrupt and unreachable in this chapter for many reasons. The whole chapter is about the facade wearing off and Tom finding out about Gatsby. On page 83 into page 84, Tom is slowly finding out about Gatsby. The whole point off the book is to portray an unreachable version of the American dream. Especially this chapter.

Because in this chapter Tom says that Gatsby got his money from illegal activities. In chapter 7 page 135. It shows that someone who build themselves up can only do it though illegal activities and it shows that the American dream may just be out of reach for normal people. This is also supported because of the separation and tension that is built in this chapter. This revealing of Gatsby's source of money takes away and hurts the idea of the american dream and shows that those who have achieved it could only do it through cheating.

In this chapter, Gatsby is dead and the only way he is remembered is as James Gatz (page 132), a man from a relatively poor upbringing. Throughout the book and Gatsby's life, he has been obsessed with obtaining riches and building up a grand facade, but in this chapter, this facade he worked so hard for is dead and gone. People also say he got what he deserved (page 133), which also tarnishes the kindness that he had shown to everyone.
