It's totally not what you would think. The funniest and strangest thing was the G-forces. I thought I couldn't handle it, but it was quite a joyful experience. When we were going into space I yelled "Poyekhali!". This means "Let's go!". I know that this was considered informal but I didn't care. I was going into space!  The date today was April 12, 1961. In that moment, I knew that I was about to be the first man in space. How would I feel back on Earth? How would the world change now that a person has actually been sent into space? I felt extremely happy in that moment. I kept laughing through the whole mission. It was so crazy. I was only in space for one hour and 48 minutes but it felt like 5 minutes. From all the adrenaline and excitement, it went by in a breeze. I was a little scared for the landing. The Soviet space engineers have not yet discovered a way for the ship too slow down, so I had to parachute out of it. I was 20,000 feet in the air with nothing but my parachute. I had been ejected from the ship and, thankfully, safely landed back on Earth. I'm like a celebrity. I still have my passion for space. I actually just recently became deputy training director of the Cosmonaut Training Centre. Some people even call me a "diplomatic icon" although I just see myself as a normal person still. I'm so thankful for that mission, because just me doing something I was passionate about, for under 2 hours, changed my life for the better.
