I am reading the award-winning novel between shades of gray. The book has 344 pages, and I have read through page 200. The genre of the book is realistic fiction. While there are lots of Jewish Holocaust books set in Germany, there are very few relating to the atrocities committed in Russia by Stalin. It’s certainly a story that deserves to be known. The details of the disease and hunger and awful work conditions are well-presented, and the author does not sacrifice realism for sentiment. It's upsetting that American students don't learn more about what was happening in Russia because Stalin killed more people through genocide than Hitler did.

Although, I dislike that the author spends to much time the protagonists thoughts, I feel that he should spend more time on developing the plot.

This book is what happens after his brother gets taken away by the police because his mother was abusive to him. This book was inspired by A Child Called It. A young boy name Richard tells his story when his brother leaves the house. He gets abused by his mother now since his brother David got taken away. The secret still remains of his mother abusing him and his brother. Richard tells us in the book how his mother wouldn't consider him apart of the "family" because he was singled out when his brother left. Now he was the one who got the wrath of his mother. His mother was an alcoholic who should've never had kids.

I am reading Punished by Vanessa Steel. The novel has 326 pages, I've read through page 290. The genre of the novel is a biography. It's very interesting reading about Vanessa situation in comparison to the novel A Child Called "It" which I have also read this quarter. Vanessa endures years of abuse but is comforted by spirits who watch over her. One thing I really enjoy about this novel is that Vanessa doesn't let her mother's harsh words have a lasting effect on her, she believes in herself and as the reader it makes you believe alongside with her. One aspect of the novel that I'm not too keen about is how Vanessa comes so close to telling someone about her situation at the time but just doesn't. For Vanessa to mention in the novel how ashamed she felt about what was happening to her to writing a whole novel about it is truly inspiring.

The genre of this book is Historical Fiction. In this book I like that there are two stories being told at the same time. The chapters alternate on which story is being told. I like this because one is set during World War II and the other is set in modern day France. The things that the people are going through in the World War II chapters are the same things that the modern day people are learning about. One thing I dislike about this book is that I don't know how the stories are intertwined. My guess is that as the story goes on I will learn more about how they are intertwined.

I am currently reading Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell. I stopped on page 332 or 392. This book is a graphic, non-fiction novel. I really like how descriptive this book is and how it captivates my attention. Marcus is very in depth and leaves out next to no details.

I am currently reading Invasive by Chuck Wendig. I stopped on page 269 out of 320. This book is a horror science-fiction novel. I really enjoy the suspense throughout the novel. Whenever it seems like the conflict will be resolved, something always happens
