In my Op-Ed, I will explore the question if abortion should be legal. I strongly believe that abortion should be legal because women should be able to do anything they want with their bodies. I know somebody who received an abortion so this Op-Ed is important to me. Before I started to explore and research about abortion, I was against it. I just thought it was terrible because you are literally killing a baby. But as I was talking to the person who got the abortion, she was telling me that it was the best choice she made in her life. This really changed my thought on abortion because she gave me many reasons why it was the right choice.

On the website ProCon.org, it shows an article that is titled “Should Abortion Be Legal”. The article states that 95% of all women who received abortions thought it was the right choice. I can infer that this decision the woman made was the right choice short term and long term. If a woman is going to college and she has a baby, that will be very stressful. Abortions can help relieve this stress. Abortion really helped Camila (Name of the person who received an abortion). Camila was struggling financially, if she had this baby, who knows what the situation would be. I could infer that if she did not receive this abortion, her life would be much different.

Many women are scared to receive abortions because of pain. Well, medical abortions cause no pain whatsoever. (Opposing Viewpoints) I know this because Camila told me that she received a medical abortion. Since abortions happen in the first trimester of pregancy, medical abortions are the way to go. The first trimester of abortion is 12 weeks into pregancy. Medical abortions are safe and harmless until the 9th week of pregancy. This shows that there is nothing to be scared of when you are getting an abortion.

Many people in America think that abortion should be illegal because the fetus is able to feel pain during the abortion. (ProCon.Org) In the article “Should Abortion Be Legal,” it shows that babies do not produce their pain hormone until the 26th week of pregnancy. Abortion mostly happens in the first trimester of pregnancy; the first trimester is from week one to week 12. This proves that babies will not be able to feel pain while the abortion is being performed.

A baby should not come to this world unwanted. (Opposing Viewpoints) If abortion even crosses a woman’s mind, this means she does not have the determination to take care of a baby. Having a baby takes a lot of patience and preparation. If you are not prepared to have a baby, everything will go wrong. If a baby comes into the world unwanted, it can cause many problems for the mother and the child. These problems could either be maternal depression or increased risk of child abuse.

My Peer and my good friend Noah Saed stated this during our interview, “I think that all women should be able to make their own choices by themselves and I don’t think anyone should interfere with that.” This saying right here is amazing, it is the woman’s body and she has the right to do anything with it. Imagine this: I was a parent and my child wants to play in the NFL. I say you’re not allowed to, you have to be an engineer when you get older. That would be terrible because I am deciding my child's future. It is his future and he gets to do what he wants with it. Now think about that with abortion, imagine a woman did not want to have a baby because she was not prepared. Picture me telling the woman that she is not allowed to. How do you think the woman would feel? I know that she would feel horrible because I am deciding what to do with her body.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that abortion should be legal. all women should get a choice with their own bodies. You never know, one day you could be in a situation where you have to get an abortion or someone you know has to get an abortion. If that happens, I suggest you look back at this writing.
