You have to remember that on average most employees spend more time at work than they do at home, so in reality, their office is home away from home, and who wants a grey and dreary home? Let alone an office.

Giving your office a makeover is something people put off due to costs and time but the truth is there are plenty of ways that you can give your office a makeover with the utmost of ease. In this article you will see 10 ways to do just that!

1. No more cubes!

The first thing that you have to do is get rid of the cubes. Cubes give an offices and the people who work in them, an overwhelmingly claustrophobic feel, so throw them out. Not only is this pleasing on the eye, but it also yields a more collaborative environment and builds strong working relationships between employees: it's a win-win!

2. Open space

You will notice when walking into most offices in the county that there is a big cluttering problem; desks clumped together with reckless abandon and no room to walk around without bumping into a chair leg. If you want to create a fresh new feel, create some open space by separating tables and creating lanes that are easy on the eye as well as comfortable.

3. Add artwork/posters

One of the easiest ways to give the office a makeover is to add some artwork. That doesn't mean you have to break the bank on a Basquiat. You can get great looking artwork for decent prices in local galleries, stores and charity shops. Also if you don't want to add artwork consider some posters that are vibrant and colourful instead.

4. Add plants

Plants are a welcome addition to any office. Being cooped up in a hot building for 9 hours a day can be stressful and plants are a great way to not only relieve stress but also to make the office look different and vivid without even raising a paintbrush.

5. Rugs

Whether your office has wood, marble or a carpeted floor, adding a few rugs here and there can really brighten the place up. Choose colours that are bold and distinctive to make your office floor pop as well as bringing a sense of warmth to your office building.

6. A fresh lick of paint

Something as simple and easy as changing the colour of your office walls can make a whole world of difference. Offices tend to be painted grey, beige, and taupe, so go for something a little brightener and don't be afraid to use more than one colour.

7. Vibrant furniture

Changing furniture can be a bit expensive, but if you have room in the budget and need some new office furniture be sure not to go for the same old black chairs and wooden desks. Adding a little colour to the furniture is an excellent way to completely change the look and feel of your office.

8. Home accents

As mentioned above for the average employee their office is their second home so don't be afraid to add some familiar elements to your office. If space permits having a sofa with some nice cushions can bring a very warm and homey feeling to the workplace.

9. Play area

Even if you don't do any of the above, something as easy as adding a ping-pong table can make your office look brand new. Adding a play area is a great way to improve the look of the workplace in a fun and unique way.

10. Shake things up

One of the easiest ways to give your office a makeover is to shake things up a little. That means you don't have to spend time or money on paint, but instead only move around furniture, take some out and give your office a different look with minimal effort and cost.

And there you have it! Before reading this article you might have thought that redecorating your office was a daunting task, but as you have seen above there are plenty of ways you can give your office a makeover without breaking the bank, or your back. Take note of the ten methods above and put them into practice the next time you decide to decorate.

Layla Fenston is a writer behind eVoice Australia – a premier provider of virtual telecommunications solutions in Australia.
