After looking at the history of public schooling, I learned how much of an impact a teacher has on their students. As an educator we must put all of our differences aside and unite the classroom. Celebrate our differences and learn more about our backgrounds. Its important to not white wash history and teach the class about the reality of the world. Helping them gain more knowledge to help them grow in their life.

Due to this, teachers have to continuously alter their methods and adapt to whatever change is made. I think the strengths of the public education system is the experience that students can have to strengthen their knowledge. For example, hands on activities, field trips, labs, etc. Some challenges that the teaching profession faces is the stress that surrounds it. Teachers have to construct lesson plans, teach all day, and deal with parents all while being underpaid.

The education system changes over time in order to do what they believe is best for the students. I think a strength of the public education system would be how much more the students are in charge of their learning and encouraged to think outside of the box. I feel in the past the students were taught to think in a certain way and as time goes on, the students have more freedom and flexibility to be in charge of their learning experience. A challenge that comes to mind is the lack of funds and emphasis on arts education. A good amount of schools have cut their arts portion due to budget cuts and this often gets overlooked, despite the many benefits that come from integrating the arts into the classroom.

I have learned many interesting points during the lesson. One that struck me are the concepts and philosophies of teaching. There are many pedagogy and one that I connected to the most was the “Mother Teaching.” I have also learned that the institution of citizenship that was introduced in the McGuffy Reader is still being taught today, such as community, pride, and citizenship. It is however interesting that although we have added many cultures to the public education we aren’t teaching so much equity and equality to students. What it is and how to integrate it into your everyday life. This is what I believe should be a topic that will create a more just system.

A challenge in the teaching profession I think is knowing each students individual abilities and needs.

By examining the history of American public school that my role as an educator is to be able to teach the students up the grade level. As an educator I must be able to everyday create a lesson to be able to effectively teach the students. As an educator we are responsible to give knowledge to the students so they can keep progressing and growing.

The teaching profession was different back then but throughout the years it's changing and improving the weaker spots. The challenges can be that sometimes more educators are required as the number of students progressively grows.

· I learned how to socialize and develop cognitive skills. one of the major lessons I learned about teaching by being a student is patience. Students need teachers that have patience. If you do not have patience it is hard to be a good teacher. Kids make mistakes. the strengths of the public education system are Great location for families, Highly trained teachers and an abundance of co-curricular activities. Some of the challenges that the teaching profession face are support, discipline, and classroom management.

In my opinion the biggest challenge with this is just change in itself because unfamiliarity and adjustments for anyone can come off to be a struggle.
