Sample 1 did not use the 5W1H framework and while it incorporated many information it did not address the key words (important and balanced diet) in the question.
Whereas Sample 2 made use of the 5W1H framework and was able to address the key words in a clear and concise manner, while giving depth to her answer.

The samples are taken from the same student. Her answer before using the 5W1H framework lacked sufficient depth to come up with a cohesive answer. However, after the use of the framework, her answer was more cohesive and included more detailed explanation that brought depth to her answer.

This student used the 5W1H framework to expand on the information provided that added depth to his response to the stimulus in comparison to his previous answer which merely copied the stimulus wholesale without adding his own ideas in the response. Hence, the 5W1H framework has allowed this student to move up to a higher band in his Task Fulfilment.

Moving Forward

Using Sample 1 taken from EL, we observed that students are able to use the framework to generate sufficient points to elaborate on their answers but were unable to use the information purposefully which resulted in some answers that were not cohesive. This trend was also noted in the other subjects.

Hence, moving forward we plan to focus on the third step of the 3 Step Approach to help students organise their points effectively.

NFS students will then consolidate their learning in Research and link it to their Decision Making component.

For Decision Making - students will then use the "Connect, Extend, Challenge" template (thinking routines) to help them think of different types of dishes that are suitable for the task question. Using information from research, they are able to consolidate and type it under the "connect" portion.
