Herding is a group of land animals of one species that feed, rest, or travel together. Herding describes how individuals in a group can act collectively without centralized direction. Each individual group member reduces the danger to itself by moving as close as possible to the center of the fleeing group. The benefits of herding are safety from predators and increased foraging efficiency.

Adaptation is making something more suitable for a new use or purpose. Herding is a method of adaptation. Herding helps adapt the species overtime because no matter what, the species is going to be attacked by predators, but only the slowest, weakest, and/ or less efficient will be eaten. The ones that can survive predator attacks live on and reproduce, passing on the genes that helped them survive.,

I believe social behavior is extremely important. It's been proven that those living alone do not live as long as those who live in groups. If gazelles didn't develop there herding technique, their population would probably be extremely low, because alone, predators could easily take them. Also, they wouldn't be able to adapt, where the ones who survive reproduce passing on the genes that helped them survive. Being alone makes it harder to find a mate, making it unable to reproduce. It also effects a species emotionally. No one wants to be alone.
