7 Steps to the Perfect Interview:

_____________________________________________________________________________

We all know the dreaded word: "interview," but no need to fret! I'm here to help.

STEP 1 - PANIC SYNDROME: DON'T panic. Panicking can often lead to making up assumptions of how your interview may go.

STEP 2 - DRESS TO IMPRESS: When going into a business setting, always look professional. This means not only dress nicely, but also assure you have appropriate hygiene [Also known as: SMELL GOOD], do your hair, and even do a little bit of makeup if it makes you feel more put together. There's no need to be excessive, but first impressions are extremely important when applying for a job.

STEP 3 - INTRODUCTION: When going into an interview, you want to appear as confident and friendly. The biggest tip I could possibly give you is simply: introduce yourself as well as be yourself. Walk in with a smile on your face and even shake the interviewer's hand, if you can get the guts to do so! There's nothing wrong with a little interaction and remember: Don't be intimidated by anyone. They were in your place once too.

STEP 4 - EYE CONTACT: I cannot stress this enough! Eye contact shows the amount of respect you have towards that particular person. As you will most likely be talking to your future boss, it's important to look at them when you speak.

STEP 5 - SPEAK ELOQUENTLY: People look for intelligence! To speak as if you were raised in a barn or use an obsessive amount of profanity is not only disrespectful, but also incredibly unprofessional. PLEASE rehearse what you are going to say, and even try using words from a thesaurus to improve your speech.

STEP 6 - JUST BE HONEST: Have you ever heard the term, "Honesty is the best policy?" When it comes to interviews, that's the best statement you could possibly live by. Just be honest when being asked a question. That's a very important trait people look for in employees [and even in everyday life].

STEP 7 - ASK QUESTIONS: By asking questions, it proves your interest in the company. It's good to come prepared with at least 3-5 questions you can ask your interviewer.

SIDE NOTE: These are just a few helpful tips, but the most important thing is to just do what makes you feel comfortable [while maintaining a professional profile]. Do not be afraid for it becomes easier once you are in the moment. JUST HAVE FUN WITH IT!

_______________________________________________________________________

When you do receive a job, going in on your first day can be a very anxious experience. Here's a few steps to help you feel more at ease:

STEP 1 - GET TO KNOW YOUR COWORKERS: Once again, introduction is key. Show them you're ready to work with them.

STEP 2 - GET TO KNOW WHERE YOU'RE WORKING: It's important to be familiar with your workplace. Know where you check in and out, examine exits, emergency plans, and get an overall idea of how your job is laid out.

STEP 3 - ASK QUESTIONS: Again, this is extremely important. You've proved you're interested in the job to your boss, now it's time to prove yourself to your fellow employees. Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask. It's better to be safe than sorry.

STEP 4 - CORDIALITY: Depending upon your work place [More in reference to retail], be polite to customers. It's your job to make them feel welcome.

STEP 5 - FIND THINGS TO DO/ASK IF THERE'S ANYTHING TO BE DONE: Sometimes in a workplace, you can finish your tasks early. In the case that this ever happens, simply just ask if anything needs to be completed. Be responsible.

Unless you're in an emergency situation where it's understandable, a boss only gives you so many warnings before you're entirely out of a job. Businesses look for people who have a past in being dedicated, and it's important that you uphold such an important reputation. My tip to you is have a routine. By getting up with more than enough time to get ready, you'll find yourself adjusting to an everyday schedule, and sometimes you'll even show up 15-20 minutes early [Not always and maybe not at all, depending upon your personality. Do what's best for you]!

________________________________________________________________________

Going off of the "Be On Time" post, we are now reaching lunch breaks. It's known that breaks are usually 30 minutes to an hour [if you're lucky] long. This does not mean to just go about yourself and do your own thing then maybe go back to work for a bit. This means eat and get back to it! Most people tend to think they have all of the time in the world when it comes to lunch, but that is the worst mindset you could possibly have. It's best to go into your break with a "I need to get my work done" mentality.

TIP: Bring a packed lunch. Coworkers are known to touch food that is not theirs. Also, going out for lunch takes up the time you could be having to relax for a few. Always be prepared!
