Tabatha gave me a lot of great insights into the life of an educator. The first thing that really stood out to me was when she said to take the advice and help from the other teachers around you. Another thing that stood out to was when she said to "Piece things together by the day to day." I needed to hear this, because when I think about being a teacher is does seem to be overwhelming coming up with daily lesson plans and activities. I also wanted to make note of the book "Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline." by Dr. Becky Bailey. I hope to look this book up one day and see what I can take away from reading this book. She also recommended following other teachers on social media for other tips and ideas, which I think is a great idea as I already follow a couple.

Spencer said a lot of things that really stuck out to me. The main thing that I loved about the interview with Spencer was when he was asked why should we become educators. His answer was very honest and straight to the point when he said "you won't know until you meet your kids." I appreciate his honesty! I also thought that his story about coming a teacher was very good. Once again I love how honest he is with his story, that he really only wanted to be a football coach. His former coaches words were very powerful "A good teacher is a good coach" this stuff is very raw and real and I truly do appreciate honesty. I also like the book recommendations that he said and I have them written down to look up soon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn8FpQVcA3M
I loved listening to Natasha and hear her thoughts on assessment. I liked her definition on assessment as "getting to know what my kids know." It was very straight and to the point! I also like how she has her classroom set up as more of conference tables and cafe tables so that students can work together, and have them assess each other. Then they can tell her what that other student understands about a lesson. I thought her race cars for the students learning their multiplication was brilliant, and something that I would also consider in the future. The theme of her room is absolutely adorable how everything is travel theme. She has the air traffic control of the room control the light on the board, she also has layover option for free time between lessons, and then she has their binders in a tray labeled baggage claim. I thought she was such a fun guest speaker, and I am thankful to learn from her this week!

I have to say that I absolutely LOVED listening to Christina. The most important thing that I think I took away from her video was when she said "did you grow this year?" The fact that she cares about her students that much says so much about her character, and I hope that I can be that like to my future students. I also liked that she said "don 't walk alone." I sometimes have fear about coming up with lessons in the future, or having to talk with parents. The fact that she said to collaborate with your team makes me feel like I won't be alone when I get started teaching. I also liked that she said that even the kids that are already high up still need to learn too. I think that is something that not everybody thinks about.

I think that Brandi is a very kind hearted and very knowledgeable person to look up to. I like that she said to surround ourselves with positives, because the world is full on negative. I also thought her quote on following "your true North" was amazing! I am currently struggling myself with motivation, and I needed to hear this this week. To add onto that she also suggested that we filter out the bad stuff that we hear. Which goes along with what she said before, but great advice to shut out all of the chatter. I also liked that she tells her students that they need to also believe in themselves, and they need to get into the game.

What I liked most about Kelly, was the fact that she seemed very genuine. I felt like she really does care about students, but also cares about teachers and wanting to help them succeed. I like that she also said that assessment to her has to do with any point throughout your life, in professional and personal - did you accomplish your goal? That seriously makes me think about some things! I like that she talked about rubrics and the importance of giving them their rubrics at the beginning of a lesson so that they know what they are working towards in the end. Also, she stated that it is important to create your own rubrics for lessons instead of using one that someone else has made in the past. She also said that in your classrooms it is important to establish procedures and routines for your classroom from day one. This way children know what to expect when they step into your classroom everyday. She also said the best way to work smarter, and not harder is to make easy exit tickets or formative assignments that you do not have to grade, but can see what their understanding is.

I enjoyed watching and learning from Marsha. I loved that she was open and honest about how the older kids were not her jam and that she likes working with the younger kids more. I like to hear this because I am not sure yet what age group I want to work with yet. I like that she also said to leave your home problems at the door because your kids don't need to know about any of that stuff. I also like that she and her team plan for the week ahead every Tuesday. I think planning my days are what scares me the most when I think about teaching. I also like her quick and easy assessments for her kindergarten class. When they use their little cubes to show her 5 and then remove 2 and how many are left. Just best to keep them short and sweet and hands on!

TJ Ulmer

I was impressed by all the experience that TJ has had in his journey. I really like to hear about these from people who didn't plan on any of that happening. The things that stood out to me the most about TJ's interview was that he said that work relations are important. I also thought that it was important to note that parents want to know that you know their kid, and you take time to get to know them. As a parent I agree with this, and as a future teacher parents make me nervous. I really liked that his advice to new teachers was to take it slow, and do the best you can with what you understand because it will all come with time. I also liked that her said that his school is like a compass instead of a map because they are all going in the same direction. I hope that one day I have a principal that I work for like TJ because he seems helpful and understanding, especially, with new teachers who are trying to figure it out as they go.

Dena Steen

Dena gave some pointers that I absolutely loved, and I want to start with her mentioning that you should go small groups every single day will ALL of your students. Even the students who are high readers still need to know that they are cared for and need to widen their vocabulary. I also liked the vocabulary board that was behind her desk for all the words that each group is reading. That way they are able to learn new words and there meanings. I liked the color strip reading markers for students with dyslexia. I will make sure that I have those available in my classroom one day to because my son also has dyslexia. I also like that she goes to her students sporting events to show them and their parents that she cares about them. My sons teacher came to his this year to and my son absolutely loved it! So I will make sure that I do this too. Her seating arrangements are also very unique and I think that the rocking chair or the swivel chair are probably very helpful for students with ADHD.

I think my favorite part about listening to Andy is when he said "respect your impact" I honestly needed to hear that. I always have a hard time when I am new somewhere feeling like I fit in and matter. He made me feel like I do matter, and what I am going to be doing will matter. Thank you, for introducing us to Andy! I don't have a whole lot to type out about him, but I think that his might have been the most meaningful to me!
