Unlike fast paced, all out basketball or football games, baseball presents a slower, more methodical approach to professional sports. In its own niche is a group of “purists'' that want the sport to remain how it is, but the younger generations seek change. Constant clashes on Twitter or sports outlets between the two generations tell us both sides of the story.

Nicknamed: “Seven hitless innings. No runs. No hits. No name” by columnist Jayson Stark, the game was the first of two that day (a doubleheader). This nickname is needed since it cannot be ruled a no-hitter according to MLB legislature.

How could Bumgarner throw nine innings if the game only goes to seven? This gem by Bumgarner should not be ruled anything but a no-hitter, but vote on this week’s poll what you think.

This calls for a “radar tracking system that determines whether the pitch is a ball or a strike that sends a signal to the umpire behind the plate” (Baccellieri). While this is not a current rule implemented in professional baseball, it is seen in independent leagues and is making its way into the minor leagues. This rule has sparked the most controversy, typically from fans of teams that have just been beaten because of it, but there are positives. For one, “it adds instant intensity and urgency”(Castrovince). Most importantly though, this will directly cut unwanted time from games having lasted much longer. Of course there are negatives, like the possibility of a pitcher getting every batter out he faces in an inning and still losing. Overall, it’s understandable why time and attention take precedence over something like that.
