Theoretical

Theoretical Mathematicians are responsible for developing new principals and look at relationships between known principals as well, both using math. Graduate students and prosserfs are mostly found in this stream, who do research and teach at universities. 

Applied mathematicians

Applied mathematicians are responsible for solving practical problems using math. They test a number of principals, theories and methods as well.
