This is true because, of the 62 mass shootings in the US, between 1982 and 2012, 49 of the shooters used illegally obtained guns, this is 80% of the shooters. So most of the criminals don't abide by the laws that we have now, therefore, no one would listen to the new laws. According to the National Rifle Association (NRA)(surveyed by Pew Research), guns are used for self-defense 2.5 million times a year and 61% of men and 56% of women  believe that stricter gun laws would "make it more difficult for people to protect their homes and families."

When we teach kids gun safety, there will be a smaller chance that a kid will take a gun not knowing how to use it and put themselves in danger. The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute, Inc (SAAMI), said, "Whether in the field, at the range or in the home, a responsible and knowledgeable gun owner is rarely involved in a firearms accident of any kind." This shows that people can be considered safer if you have an education on the topic.

If we teach kids even 15% as much as you need to know for a gun license, then they will be knowledgeable enough to know the correct uses for a gun and the incorrect uses for a gun as well as the importance of not using a gun for illegal things. If we simply provide a little bit of gun education into a school just like how we educate them on other important topics, we will be able to successfully teach them the proper and improper uses of a gun. Guns are tools, not weapons.

A study in Applied Economics Letters states, "Assault weapon bans did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level" This means that even when states ban assault weapons, murder still stays the same but you're getting rid of civilian's ability to use assault weapons to protect their home. Also from the same study in Applied Economics Letters says, "States with restrictions on the carrying of concealed weapons had higher gun-related murders." This means that when states stopped letting their civilians carry concealed weapons, they were unable to defend themselves from the criminals and died instead of being able to fight back with their concealed weapon. From this, we can conclude that if you ban assault weapons or if you ban concealed weapons it will only make matters worse for the civilians.

With so many people owning guns, how can we justify taking away their guns, especially when they have done more good than bad? The Revolutionary War was fought with guns known as muskets. Was the war for our independence and freedom an act of unnecessary violence? This shows that fighting using guns for important reasons such as independence or freedom from Britain are additional reasons that guns are helpful. This built our nation upon our rights to freedom and most importantly our rights to bear arms as a result.
