         <description><![CDATA[<p>Depression is the third leading cause of disability in the world and one-third of patients are resistance to current drug treatment options. This is known as treatment-resistance depression (TRD). Depression affects approximately 350 million individuals worldwide and is cause for personal suffering and economic loss. </p><p><br/></p><p>The use of ketamine in low doses for treatment of depression has been found to be effective in patients with TRD. Ketamine has a treatment onset of less that 24 hours in contrast to other anti-depressive medications that take up to four weeks to become effective. In some cases ketamine can works as quickly as 40 minutes. In conjunction with cognitive behavioral therapy, studies have shown that more than half the patients treated with ketamine or esketamine (nasal spray ketamine) have had significant improvement of their depressive symptoms. </p>]]></description>

Depression has such a major effect on our world, both directly and indirectly, new treatment options showing such amazing results in clinical trials need to be embraced and continued to be researched. We should  continue to evaluate the effectiveness of ketamine as an approved treatment for depression and explore all this medication modality had to offer for our patients. </p>]]></description>
