A Southerner soon as a Northerner,
He rode over Connecticut
An imperfect map will have to do
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear

Like a tree   
Trees of ashes wave good-bye
At home on the hills of Vermont 
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear

Just like moons and like suns,
I do not know which to prefer,   
this earth who was once a star 
The bright suns I see
